You dont have to use them, its not compulsory is it? What will cause more of a backlash against them i think ,is if they have to show the real cost of the calls against the numbers.
The Advertising Standards Authority has ruled on this see the seperate posting by me yesterday 6.07pm (0845/0870 The ASA,s view of how they should be advertised.) Sorry i dont know how to link this.
If more people complained to the ASA the message will soon get round.PF.0 -

I see in your signature you suggest that all 084X numbers are premium rate ,surely not 0844?PF.0 -

By definition yes. It isn't necessarily the rate that they are charged at (whether they be 1p or £1.50), but the fact that some of the call cost is passed to the 084/087 provider to provide the number, who in most cases pass some of this to the terminating party. It would be fair to call them 'low premium rate' to distinguish them from the biggies, but when I make a call it should be clear that the receiver benefits.pricefighter wrote:DonnyDave.

Worse still some commercial companies actually make profits when we call to complain. I'm considering starting a petition about this. Meanwhile, I'd like to know your thoughts.
Martin. What happened to your petition idea, have you put it on the back burner?PF.0 -

            yeah what about the jobcentre?
I think it is atrocious that jobseekers (who dont have money to spare) have to call the effing 0845 number to hear about a job because the jobcentre wont give out the email address nor the actual phone number. Why cant it be for free, the jobcentre is something provided by the government to help things moving!
In france banks are getting to use overcharging numbers. you can see the fax number is still regional!"Don't cry, Don't Raise your Eye
