I think the EA is taking a pragmatic, sensible view.

Redirecting the mail seems like a weird thing to do (maybe the buyers are weird people)...
But it does no harm to anybody...
    It makes the sellers happy...
    So why rock the boat?

And perhaps there is a sensible explanation. For example:

    - They have moved into temporary accommodation for a few weeks
    - The solicitor and mortgage co (and other important people) have the temp address.
    - The redirect is just to catch the less important stuff
    - A Royal Mail redirect lasts for 3, 6 or 12 months - they don't expect to be in the temp address for 3 months.
    - So the simpler solution is to set up a 12 month redirect to your address

I honestly don't think that there is a sensible explanation and I know for certain that the above aren't the case. They are definitely living at the house the post is being re-directed from as it's the one that they are selling. Even if there had been a legitimate reason, asking in advance would simply have been the polite thing to do.

I don't think there is any malice behind it, just not a lot of thought either.

Yes, we can see the address, but they are ex-directory and we don't have an e-mail address. Obviously can't write to them, as others point out, it will come back to us.....

You put "PLEASE DO NOT REDIRECT" in big letters on the envelope.

Royal Mail should then post the letter.
Or post it to their next-door neighbour with a covering letter asking them to be so kind in popping it in next-doors letterbox for you.
Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.
  • This happened to us after we'd exchanged and about a week before we actually completed. It didn't seem a big deal at the time. However, I have always found redirection services a bit unreliable as stuff always seems to go missing.

Don't write their name on it, write to the home owner or occupier etc, it won't be redirected then.
  • Just shred it. It's not your problem, it's not directed to you.
