Hi Guys,
Not sure this is the right area to post to, if not please can someone point me in the right direction
I have just checked my bank statement and realised Thames Water have changed my direct debit, and not notified me of this.
I am going to call them up to complain, but want to know where I stand on this. Can they do this? I thought you had to be notified in writing before they can change it?
Really appreciate some advice on this.
Thanks In Advance

Welcome to the forum.
Yes under the Direct Debit guarantee you must be informed in writing xx working days before a change is implemented. If they haven't notified you, your bank will refund the additional amount without any questions being asked -i.e. your word is enough.
However the water company often put notification of an increased DD on the bottom of a bill and it is easy to miss, unless you read the bill carefully. i.e. it doesn't have to be a separate letter. It would be most unusual for them not notify you.0 -
Hi,
Thanks for the information. I haven't had a bill since April, and they only changed the direct debit last month! Didn't even realise until I was checking something today!!0
