According to Rightmove, £200k won't buy you anything at all within 2 miles of my current (village) postcode.

    Where is that?

Looks lovely!...room to extend, land, by the beach...looks in middle of nowhere potentially but idilic in lots of ways.

    Gairloch in NW Scotland.

Prices for 2/3 bed terraces in the area around Brent cross were about 200k a few years ago and now 400k+. If you had the foresight to buy in 2006 why did you buy in Borehamwood?
Borehamwood was nicer in 2006 than it is now, it was in a commutable zone, whilst being near my wife's family and not too far into London. It's also a lot cheaper than the neighbouring Shenley/radlet/esltree areas. I did move from renting in the Brent Cross/golders green area, and would have no intentions of living there.

We bought when we were ready to buy our first house, not as a financial investment. You will be glad to know that the £300k house we moved into in 2011 in Bricket Wood has risen in value much faster

The only thing you can buy here for under 200k is very temporary looking fixed caravans
  • Borehamwood has quickly got more grim. They're building flats EVERYWHERE, the high street has gone to hell, the traffic is terrible. But they are getting a debenhams soon
