Think I will have to start paying for recorded postage so that this can't happen, problem is it kills the profit margin or cheaper items.

You used to be able to search via bidder in advanced search but ebay stopped this recently. The link has been removed from the dot.com site but is still there on the uk site (it doesn't work though!!)

When does the dispute close, I have refunded - no other option but the dispute still says open. Does it close automatically after a set amount of time if the buyer doesn't respond?
  • 1. Never just refund.
    2. Ask buyer to confitm their address to you as you wish to check your records.
    3. Always get a proof of posting receipt & pop postcode house number & item ref on it.
4 Use form P58 to get a refund on missing item from Rmail, telling buyer that RM will contact them to confirm item not rec'd,
5 Put return address on it.
If large item get buyer to see if it is at sort office. A card not always left.
An item is not lost till 15 business days have passed - 21 days with W ends.
The more sellers who do this will make scammers not bother.

I agree with everything you have put but unfortunately most buyers get peeved when you do the above and unless a big poweseller negs will finish you off.

A seller can have whatever processes they want in place, however once a case is opened none of it matters- the seller either proves delivery or refunds. The op was right to refund, without tracking they had no other option.

This is true Soolin, but the kind of people I am talking about flushing out are drop shippers who advertise your goods, often in foreign language sites in the UK, and they specialise in low value un-signed goods. It takes a sharp eye to spot them (or Paranoia!) and I would never spell out in just 1 post all the mistakes they make as it would just help them.

Yep, if it had been only a few days since dispatch I would have asked them to wait a little longer but its over a month so should have arrived by now. I can't prove it but looking at their account they are scamming sellers. Not sure what the answer other than send everything tracked is.

It has taken over 3 hours I have been on live chat with 7 different reps being passed around and hopefully now they are going to investigate the buyer. I doubt I will get my refund back though. It is pending in paypal as an echeque as it was taking funds from the bank (not sure why it went to echeque it is normally instant) so am wondering if this can be recalled if the buyer is removed from ebay.
