IT Courses - Advice Required

Something to consider; when I was looking to refresh IT skills a few years back, the regular courses were working out about £1000 per week for a instructor led course.
It actually worked out cheaper (if not as quick) to do a Masters. As a bonus, it covered more ground, in greater depth, and gave me a "recent" degree on my CV.
If you're serious about the Business Analysis, it might be worth looking into more design related courses. Not that it doesn't help to have a technical background, but you need to be able to understand and communicate the technical details more than get your hands dirty... Kind of an interpreter between the business and the techies...0 -
You might want to look for ITIL and / or Prince 2 courses. Shop around for best prices as there will be a big difference.0

A number of people have advised of this, however do places such as the MET cater for this?
I would doubt it. Its either a local training company or online.
Some of the Colleges used to run Comptia A+ and Cisco CCNA and possibly still do. But that takes you down a different route entirely. I know people who did CCNA courses that didn't work in that field and bought used routers and switches of ebay ( very often sold as kits for that purpose ).
A friend of mine is looking to do both of these ( ITIL 3 and Prince 2 ) and has been researching online availability. I have asked him to pop me some info and I will post it when I can.
That said, I think experience is your friend. If you plan to progress up the ladder in some field within I.T. , I think you should already be working and gaining experience in that area.
You could start applying for jobs that you are not going to get, but get good interview experience and also the chance to ask your own relevant questions. Think of it as market research.

Just been chatting to my friend who tells me that prices for local courses can be negotiated to some extent, especially if the course is under subscribed. However, he is looking for online courses

Hi,
Of the 5 people I know who did the java course at the Met, 4 are enployed as java developers. However several of these were also on a government training course for IT.
There is a huge demand for mobile skills, but then it's difficult to prove you have the skills without formal certification at the end.
I've done microsoft certifications through the Met before and found them good although you are trained with the ultimate goal of passing the exam at the end rather than becoming a decent programmer.0 -
I've searched online for facilities around Belfast that complete either ITIL or Prince2 courses and came up with nothing. Am I looking in the wrong places?0
