How do I activate a PAYG sim card?

Ok numpty alert! How do I activate a t-mobile PAYG sim? Its not for my use, i'll be activating it and sending it to a friend abroad. I have my own unblocked smart phone but its on a different network, all set up for me etc. I'm worried about putting a different sim into it just to activate it. I'm not sure what would happen. Would everything be the same with my phone when I put my usual sim back in? Any advice on what I should do? Thanks.

Assuming your own phone is unlocked, it shouldn't matter: swapping the SIM will not alter your own set-up unless you install the settings that will be sent.

Your friend will still need to get the data and MMS settings sent for their own handset though.
If you are concerned, just use an old unlocked handset to activate it on.No free lunch, and no free laptop
