I knew somebody had said it. Thank you for reminding me who it was. With the quantity of books I have in mind I think I'd like to talk to the stationmaster first but I need to wait until the St Vincent de Paul get back to me as I've given them first dibs. They do so much good work so I always try them first when I'm disposing of something. It might do some good for some poor creature who's down on his or her luck.
You're probably right. I think the station bookshelf is mainly for books that people could read on the train, e.g. paperback novels or children's books.
St Vincent de Paul is indeed a well-deserving charity which does great work.0 -

Have you seen the complex the St Vincent de Paul have in Lurgan? It's not far from the railway station. It doesn't announce itself very well but once you're in there it's massive and you can see the good work they do actually going on. The place is full of crèches, nurseries, a thrift shop, cafe etc etc.0 -
National Trust at Rowallane in Saintfield also have a Second Hand Book Shop where you can leave books0

Carrickfergus train station has a bookcase to put books and take books it's a part of bookcrossing but didn't have any bookcrossing labels in the ones I took.So registered them on bookcrossing does have a poster on side of bookshelf about bookcrossing.0

I even spotted some on the table in Botanic Station on Saturday (where all the leaflets and timetables are)!0 -
I checked out that Bookcrossing thing. It's very interesting. It just seems like a lot of work considering all the books I've got to get rid of.0

I didn't take any books as I have a big back-log of books waiting to be read!
And I didn't notice if they were bookcrossing ones or not (to be honest I have never heard of bookcrossing - unless that's what the leaving and taking of books at railway stations which I originally brought to the attention of this thread is called).
Botanic Station is halfway down Botanic Avenue on the RHS as you travel citywards.0
