  • Hi All!

    Last update for the month.

I spent another £28.98, bringing the total for this month to £379.04:j.

BUT, I must admit to using some of the money for other things, like treats when out and a new outfit for my DD for a wedding, so actually spent £515.76 out of the grocery account, so all in all, not too bad for the first month of doing this. Next month the budget has to be £500 as we have all sorts of extras to pay. I'll go over onto the October challenge thread now and get started.
  • I've gone over budget...all because of number 1 son, bless his little cotton socks. A couple of visits have pushed me over the edge, as it were. I've bought extra stuff to make packed lunches for Saturday as we're going on a hike and will need sustenance. will get back on track next month
    GC - Oct £36.17/£31
    GC - Sep £35.56/£30:o
    GC - Aug £30.73/£31

Popped into Mr T's today for cereal, shower gel and a pack of pens (always disappear in this house!!). It came to £1.56, so September is now at £148.95.

Still £11.05 left for 6 days. Think we'll only need milk, apples and bananas beginning of next week, and have a £5 c0-0p voucher with a minimum spend of £5, so that's them sorted. May have money left next Wednesday, when the next budget starts :)

A bad today for budgeting today!

First I forgot my lunch and bought a Boots meal deal, safe in the knowledge that I'm only a few days from the end on the month and still had a good chunk of my grocery budget left, then a charity cake stall on Friday morning was announced at work!

It's a charity close to my heart, so I'd like to contribute a couple of cakes, but that means an unexpected spend on ingredients. I've got eggs, sugar, flour, butter and milk but no cream, fruit, chocolate, jam or anything like that. Will have to go shopping this evening now :(

Why couldn't they give a bit more notice? Arrrgh!

Morning, just a little update from me, payday next Tuesday and I have about £18 left, but did a top up shop yesterday that will keep us going until the weekend then I will just need fridge bits for the weekend. Mushroom stroganoff for me and hubster today, he is getting the hang of this moneysaving lol he had fish and chips last night and wasted half his chips so he wrapped them up and popped them in the fridge to have them warmed up with his stroganoff today, hes learning.

  • No matter how prepared I think I am something unexpected always comes up to sabotage my NSDs. Have to say it's usually child related, yesterday all three came home with school photo orders. Is it too mean to say I don't want the school photo lol!?

Spent a LOT of time in the kitchen yesterday making tea (Shepherd's Pie/Baked Jam Roll) and preparing in advance for tonight's family celebration meal. It's our 18th wedding anniversary. Having liver pate with caramelised onion/slow roasted pork shoulder/toffee apple pie washed down with a bottle of bubbly. The meal for 4-5 including wine worked out about £10 so more or less managed to work that into the budget without going too far over. Got some lovely home based entertainments planned so feeling proud of my frugal achievements today :)

Trying to strike a balance between standing guard on the fridge, and letting the family help themselves. If I don't keep an eye on them they randomly eat ingredients that I have planned to make meals with. Its a bit tough on them because the fridge does tend to look empty sometimes, and teenagers/hubby do like snacking. Just said they have to ask me first before they eat something but that feels a bit strict!
