  • Hi,

You haven't got long to go!
I am NHS too so know where you are coming from. I started with the NHS straight after university and have 18 years service now. I have a couple of colleagues who have missed out on getting access to their pension at 60 (state). They are both planning on going early anyway (as, I would imagine, most people are).
I have recently started overpaying my mortgage. We have a 25 year endowment due to mature in 2017 so I am hoping to pay off as much as possible before then. I have increased payments so that I am paying £10K a year off. I can just about manage that!
I am part time in the NHS now and, having 2 primary aged children, I pay childcare. My mum is too old to help out and DH lost his mum before we had our first child back in 2004. So, I have taken a BIG hit with income over the last 10 years. We also moved in 2010 from a 3 bed semi to a 4 bed detached. We do plan on downsizing later on though to give us extra money for retirement.
Anyway, good luck! Not long to go!

  • Hi Miss Moneysaver and fellow nhs worker! Your plans seem to be going well and it's quite an achievement to pay £10k per year off your mortgage. I Work with folks who are paying for childcare and know from them how expensive it is... It wasnt like that in my day, relatively speaking (wage to childcare costs).

You haven't got long to go yourself re your mortgage! Will you carry on working then after it's paid off to stash cash for retirement?

We've downsized, only in our case it was to a more expensive property... How mad was that?! We were looking for a couple of years but there wasnt much about ... We didn't want a total fixer upper, been there, done that! & this, it can always be sold!

I would like to go part time in Work to keep my
Independence and pay for hols etc. but dont think I can bear the politics and also the iminent next round of changes where I will have to be interviewed to keep my own job or hopefully slotted in. can't be doing with it all now.
I wish you all the very best in your quest to be mf and look forward to reading about your journey!
    Best wishes
    Bo xx

At the top of the thread is a green line and one of the drop down options is Thread Tools. You can select to subscribe there.

There is also a way to subscribe automatically to every thread you post on but can't remember how :o.

    OK:

    User CP
    Edit Options
    Default Thread Subscription Mode
Yours will be set on Do Not Subscribe
Change to No Email Notification - that way you you'll be subscribed but WON'T get an email every time someone posts on a thread you're subscribed to. If you do want that then select one of the other options.

When you log on, click on User CP and all the threads with new posts will be listed. If you right click on the little triangle on the left and select open in new tab it will open a tab starting with the first unread post.
