Can anyone recommend a mobile with GREAT/EXCELLENT reception? Call me old fashioned but I just want my mobile to make and receive calls! - no smart phones etc.

It's going to depend where in the UK you are as to what networks have good coverage.....0

At the moment I have a Samsung (basic model) on O2 in midlands area and it is awful reception; hence any advice welcome before I splash out on another.0

The poor reception is usually the provider, not the phone.
Check which provider your friends use and how they rate the service.
Samsung & Nokia are usually good bets for reception.0 -
No provider guarantees reception but why not pick up a SIM from some of the other companies and see how they work for you. No need to change your phone.0

Doesn't sound like you actually need a new handset, just a change of network.
Why not test out EE and Voda using a free SIM from Asda Mobile or Sainsbury Mobile respectively?
Three won't work on your existing handset unless it is 3G, so I'm ruling out Three 3-2-1.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
IMHO there are significant differences between the sensitivity of "smart" phones and old basic phones.
Many occasions out in the sticks I have no signal, the kids have no signal, and Mrs has a useable signal on her Nokia 2700. We are all on Tesco/O2, but I have a HTC Desire, and the kids have an iphone and a Moto G.
Try something like a Nokia 105 for £20 or less, and get a month standby battery life too?0 -
Thanks to all for your helpful tips.0

It used to be that there was vast difference between handsets and reception but as has been mentioned the main factor to reception is the network.
I've always found that Nokia handsets do seem to be a good bet in low signal areas but that's only my opinion. Have you thought of using a WiFi app like Three's InTouch?0 -

Easy way to find out is to go on the EE, Vodaphone, 3s websites and order some free Sim's that way you can find out which has the best coverage were you live:D
As someone as already said it depends were you live O2 may be bad were you live but someone else is area could be a brilliant signal.Nobody is Perfect. I am Nobody, therefore I am Perfect.0
