You didn't read the OP properly.you can download an alternative open office which is free..
OP already has Open Office but needs Word, Excel & Outlook to be totally compatible with work. This suggests that the OP is using macro loaded docs in Word & Excel and possibly macro driven templates in Outlook.
Open Office et al can not cope with this level of automation/macro use. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
OP also says they're not tech savvy - so probably are not into macros - that isn't the reason I agree with you - open office is inferior in many more ways than that - meanwhile - the subscription is the way things are going and with half the world on office 2010 these days, there's no need to get a pay per time product when an in one product goes on ebay for 40 quid or less as I think another posted pointed out. I'd go down the ebay route, although there are torrents of other routes to go downYou didn't read the OP properly.

You don't need to be 'into' macros. If the docs supplied contain them and needs them for the doc to work correctly then you don't need to know anything about them as long as you get the right result in box X when you put a value in box AThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. vast majority of spreadsheets are macro free, vast majority of xlsm files don't open correctly on excel anyway due to inbuilt protection that you have to drop down - I'm extremely " into" macros as it's part of my job - into it enough to know that VBA and the like are far from the primary use of excel as far as 90% of the general public goYou don't need to be 'into' macros. As we do not know the OPs work then I was surmising that it involved active documents, hence the requirements to be fully compatible and the implication that Open Office was not cutting it.
As has been pointed out in previous threads by myself and others, free offerings tend to 'break' documents unless the documents only contain the basic formatting/formulas.
I wonder how many people are using supplied spreadsheets in their work and are not aware that there is possibly VBA/macros being used in the background of it?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
All of the free choices are compatible with MS Office. I don't see what the problem is.......Some companies run on free office products and have no problem interacting with anyone using MS.
Putting that to one side.....If the Company insist you have to use MS on your home PC - Make them pay for it..Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

As an example here is the Excel view of a spreadsheet that I use regularly. There are no macros in it just one standard Excel formula
