Outlook, word, excel 2010

I'm a complete techno thickie.
I have a refurb Dell Latitude E6400 with Windows 7 OS.

I desperately need Word, Excel and Outlook on it, preferably 2010.
I'm totally confused by everything that's available and need pointing in the right direction.

I realise I will have to pay for it, that is not an issue. I'm scared of downloading nasties.

I know this is a moneysaving site but it MUST be genuine Microsoft stuff, not a free alternative, as it needs to be 100% compatible with work computers which are running 2010 versions. (It already has Open Office 3.3 installed).

Would really appreciate some help.

Thanks.

You might want to go the Office 365 route which will mean you pay by subscription rather than all up front. The advantage of this method is you always get the latest version so when your work upgrades so will you. Currently the latest is 2013 which works 100% with Office 2010 files.

Office 365 is a download which can be got straight from Microsoft although if buying a year up front rather than monthly, you can get a key card cheaper from Amazon.

365 comes in two flavours for home. Personal which allows 1 install on a PC plus 1 tablet. Home allows 5 PC or Mac installs so if you have multiple machines this is the one to go for.

You can still buy 2010 on cd but you need to buy the business versions to get Outlook and that is expensive.

Me too. Office 2010 Home and Student edition allows 3 installs, so most Ebayers sell it on with one install left

You can likely but it cheaper through work if it's a larger organisation, ask them about it. The deals are extremely good.

Otherwise the 365 subscription route is probably the most economical, unless you can do without outlook (which you'd have to configure for the exchange server if it's a work thing) and can buy a copy of office home and student for £80-odd for word and excel.

    Thanks for all the replies.

Getting it through work is not an option unfortunately.

I'm probably gonna go down the subscription route as this is a refurb machine and will probably have a limited lifespan. It's got a 2 year warranty. So if it goes wrong I won't have wasted lots of dosh :)

    Hi Joansgirl

If you require it i can do a remote session, if you want it legimately then its expensive you can download an alternative open office which is free. It will do everything you want.

Let me know if you require further help. Check ebay youll probably find a cheap deal on office 2010.

Do you have any children in school, uni or college? If so, then Microsoft do a really good deal for students - I think you pay about £10 - you just need an email address from a school or college

    Hi

    Well compatibility is an issue...

You may be able to get Office 2003 or Office for XP quite cheap and.......

By installing the Compatibility Pack along-side of Microsoft Office XP, or Office 2003, you will be able to open, edit, save, and create files using the formats that are used by Office 2013, Office 2010 and the 2007 Office systems. Office 2000 users, as well as users of Windows 2000 SP4 and later, can convert Open XML Formats to binary file formats from within Windows Explorer.
