Hello all,
I've seen similar posts to this before but none as specific as I would like.
I've visited the area and like it in general. However, I don't have specific local knowledge.
Through property searching online, there seems to be a lot of terraced houses off Westborough Road for a very reasonable price. What is this area (between Westminster Drive and Gainsborough Drive) like for the following?
Family life?
School catchment?
Parking?
Noise?
Access to beach/shops/train?
Thank you in advance for your help.

In terms of schools, remember there is an 11+ grammar school system in Southend, with 4 secondary grammar schools, these are then followed by 2 catholic schools and then "the rest" which in my opinion (although I am sure someone may argue with me) means these do poorly and aren't as desirable.
Personally I wouldn't go to the beach in Southend.... it's mud, but the amusements and adventure park etc are ok.
Trains are cheap in comparison to the rest of the country and there are lots of stops, so living next to a station would be beneficial.
I know about Southend in general, not the exact area you are asking about in great detail.0 -
I live in the exact area
What's your budget and what kind of property are you looking for?
I love living here but some roads are better than others. General advice would be stay closer to westborough road than fairfax drive or London road, but it depends on the street.
Buses into town are frequent. Westcliff and prittlewell stations are walkable.
Happy to help if you want more advice.0 -
We are in the area (Southend) on the seafront at the moment. A lot of money has been put into the seafront in the last few years southend end and from the streets you have mentioned the beach is walkable to the westcliff end and from a child i remember it being really lovely. Walked down there from Leigh to Westcliff last summer and it was a lovely walk with icecreams on the way - Westcliff has always been the 'posher' end compared to Southend.
There are many buses going down the London road regularly (10mins tops) I have been to a couple of parks in that area which are clean and nice to play in. There are a few childrens groups nearby. How old are your children or is it a future question?
A few of my friends have houses down there and they are happy there with their families. I am not sure about parking but when driving down there (they are one way streets) it always seems quite built up so personally I would like to know where I am supposed to park. Of street parking would be great but from what I have seen it doesn't look like many houses have it.
There are many shops in the area and you would be between the grammers (Southend and Westcliff) the schools in the area from what I have heard are good however I haven't looked into them recently only know from memory and things change over the years.Overdraft = £1000 Emergency fund = £2500

Good point about parking. It is ok in some streets but not around the hospital. My street gets busy at weekends but I always get a space pretty near my house0
