I'd avoid the long stay car park. I parked there and never again. Car park itself is fine, the horrendous scrum to get on the bus back to the car park from the terminal was not. I have never encountered such ignorant, rude and vile people in my life. They were willing to push elderly people out of the way to get on the bus and had zero manners. I've never encountered that at Heathrow.

Make sure you allow plenty of time, I recently arrived late and had to park in the short stay car park for 8 days, cost me £270! Its the best parking space in the airport, but crazy expensive.

I usually end up at Airparks unless I'm parking at a hotel (if you are stopping the night before your flight on your return then the parking is often not much, if anything, more than the room) and I've never had a problem with them. It's not as close as the official Long Stay car park but is closer than the other off-site operators.

Totallybored how can you blame the car park for the rude people that got on your bus, we have used it before and its been fine.
I just pick the one that has the best offer on at the time.

I use APH for both parking and to book an hotel either the night before the outward bound flight or for the wee hours of the morning when returning home.

I have found them to be very competitively priced. 8 days parking and hotel stay on my inward bound journey recently cost me £90.

The Gatwick Crowne Plaza hotel are also reasonably priced if you are looking for hotel and parking.

We've stayed at Gatwick House, a great B&B a couple of miles from the airport. You can stay the night before, get free transfers and they look after your car too all for a very reasonable price.

Quite easily actually. The car park were not providing enough buses for the amount of passengers. Not everyone could get on the bus, there was no civilised queuing system and there was 10 minutes until the next bus with no guarantee of getting on that. It was the same when I arrived almost 2 weeks earlier. Gatwick is hardly full of the most civilised travellers at the best of times but surely the car park company realises there will be an increase in passengers in August. If you don't mind being trampled on and barged out of the way by leopard print luggage then it's fine to park there.

I also cringe at the memories of the car park shuttle buses at Gatwick...our experience really was dire.

It obviously depends on the volume of people trying to access the shuttle at any given time - I am sure at times it is fine...the times we used it (2 or 3) it was terrible...pretty sure I recall once having to let 3 go before we could get on and I am sure at the time they were every 20 minutes...that's an hour standing waiting trying to get on a bus after a 10+ hour flight and before an hour+ drive home. We decided never again and started booking the car park next to the Hilton instead as we could just walk to the car and avoid the chaos. Not very MSE but better value for money as an overall experience, we think.

Now we skip the hassle, we travel to the airport from work (in London, admittedly) the night before, stay in a hotel for an easy start to the holiday the next morning and take a taxi home. If we did drive to the airport we would do exactly the same and park at the hotel. :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

We've been using APH at East Grinstead for 20+ years and NEVER had a problem.

Buses to and from seem fairly regular and I've not experienced a scrum. Maybe it varies with the time of your flights?

A few weeks ago, for the first time we were dropped off much further from the terminal building than usual which was a nuisance (had to drag luggage further:(.) Not sure whether this is while they complete the refurb or a permanent thing but nothing to do with the parking company.

If we have a flight before lunchtime, we stay at Cumberland House B & B, leave the car there for the duration, it's very reasonable & a great B & B.

Our flight to Malta in a few weeks time is late afternoon so we've booked the meet & greet, booked via Quidco for about £70 for 6 nights. We could maybe have got it cheaper but we've used it before & it's really handy. Simply call them when you're about 20 minutes from the terminal, they meet you in the terminal car park, you sign some paperwork & off you go. Call them when you're in the baggage hall on your return, they meet you in the car park again.
