I started off as wiccan but branched out more into the general paganism side of it as I didn't have time to really study the 'magick' side of it properly.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Hi IA!
Glad you had a great Christmas.
One of my old friends is a wiccan, so much so that she had new candles burning just about everywhere whenever we visited and the whole house stunk of incense. Actually it more or less got rammed down my throat and as I had Christianity rammed down my throat from 14 to 18 .......... decided to gracefully leave that friendship!!
So - if you don't mind me asking and if others don't mind as any form of religeon can be a taboo, what do you believe in? I sort of believe in something but then science wins out too so I'm a very confused mortal!!! I think there is something there, def believe in the supernatural but don't believe that God is a great all-being throwing down wrathful fires etc etc etc. But then how do you explain disasters etc???
Will stop now - if people do mind these questions then would you mind PM-ing me IA? I would hate to offend anyone on here!
Thank you very much,
1 stepIf you wait for perfect conditions, nothing would ever get done! :T
I'm not short - I'm condensed awesome!0 -
It's quite hard to explain but I'll try and simplify it.. lol
I believe and worship the spirits and forces of nature instead of a single 'all powerful' being. There are many gods, goddesses, spirits etc which are all representive of something in our world and nature... for example Gaia is the goddess of the earth and is seen as the 'earth mother' who controls the seasons, weather, plants animals etc etc. Also you have the goddess Diana who is the moon goddess.... but everything is equal and there is also a strong sense of equality with both male and female deities so it's not all one Paganism encompasses aspects of all sorts of beliefs and is often described as the 'tree' and with the other beliefs like wicca, shamanism, druid etc being the branches if that makes sense. I started off Wiccan but didn't want to tie myself into one belief system as I found I was using some bits of one religion and bits of another..
Here's the wikipedia definition in case what I've put doesn't make any sense.. :rotfl:Many current pagans in industrial societies base their beliefs and practices on a connection to Nature, and a divinity within all living things, but this may not hold true for all forms of Paganism, past or present. Some believe that there are many deities, which is known as pantheon or polytheism. By contrast, pantheism is the belief that the combined subconscious spirit of all living things forms the universal deity. Panentheism takes this one step further, incorporating the idea that the Universal Deity is both in everything (in the universe) but also extends beyond the known physical universe. Ancient Greek paganism, which tended in many cases to be a deification of the local deity, as Athena in Athens, saw each local emanation as an aspect of an Olympian deity during the Classical period and then after Alexander to syncretize the deity with the political process, with "state divinities" increasingly assigned to various localities, as Roma personified Rome. Many ancient regimes would claim to be the representative on earth of these gods, and would depend on more or less elaborate bureaucracies of state-supported priests and scribes to lend public support to their claims.
In one well-established sense, paganism is the belief in any non-monotheistic religion, which would mean that the Pythagoreans of ancient Greece would not be considered Pagan in that sense, since they were monotheist, but not in the Abrahamic tradition. In an extreme sense, and like the pejorative sense below, any belief, ritual or pastime not sanctioned by a religion accepted as orthodox by those doing the describing, such as Burning Man, Halloween, or even Christmas, can be described as "pagan" by the person or people who object to them and the individuals who choose to claim this title.
Wicca is only one variety of pagan witchcraft, with distinctive ritual forms, seasonal observances and religious, magical[4] and ethical precepts. Other forms of witchcraft exist within many cultures, with widely varying practices. Many Wiccans, though not all, call themselves Pagans, though the umbrella term Paganism encompasses many faiths that have nothing to do with Wicca or witchcraft. Because there is no centralised organisation in Wicca, and no single orthodoxy, the beliefs and practices of Wiccans can vary substantially, both among individuals and among traditions. Typically, the main religious principles, ethics, and ritual structures are shared, since they are key elements of traditional teachings and published works on the subject.
As practised by initiates in the lineage of Gerald Gardner, Wicca is a variety of witchcraft founded on religious and magical concepts. As such it is distinguished not only by its beliefs, but by its practice of magic, its ethical philosophy, initiatory system, organisational structure and secrecy.[5] Some of these beliefs and practices have also been adopted by others outside of this lineage, often termed Eclectic Wiccans, who generally discard the institutions of initiation, secrecy and hierarchy, and have more widely varying beliefs. Some Eclectic Wiccans neither perform magic nor identify as witches. Within traditional forms of Wicca there are three degrees of initiation. First degree is required to become a witch and gain membership of a coven; those who aspire to teach may eventually undergo second and third degree initiations, conferring the title of "High Priest" or "High Priestess" and allowing them to establish new covens.[5] At initiation, some Wiccans adopt a craft name to symbolise their spiritual "rebirth", to act as a magical alter-ego, or simply to provide anonymity when appearing as a witch in public (see Acceptance of Wiccans below
That doesn't make much more sense than what I put did it??? :rotfl:
but just to clarify a few points as no doubt there'll be some troll lurking someone waiting to jump on me.
1)I don't believe in or worship satan...
2)I don't curse people
3)I don't hurt anyone.. in fact the main 'rule' of wicca is 'An it harm none do as ye will'
4)nothing I do in ANY WAY effects the girls or puts them at any risk. If anything when they get older and ask questions they'll just gain a greater respect for the world and nature as a whole. I'm not raising them pagan nor will I be forcing it on them... if they want to learn about it when they're old enough to make their own choices then I'll teach them but until then they're not part of it at all.
5) I'm not a 'witch'Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

I've been pm'd by a mod basically saying my diary is too big and that I have to start a new diary every time my current one gets to 1,000 posts because there might be some people on dial up.
While I can understand that there might be a few people still on dial up rather than broadband I do feel that defeats the point of having a diary.
Anyway. I guess this has to be the end of this diary and I'll start a new thread. Guess I can't really call it a diary as knowing my diaries it'll be up to 1,000 posts in no time and I'll have to start a new one...
anyway. Farewell diary.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043
