Samsung Galaxy 2 - Stuck in Flight Mode then doesnt recognise simcard

My 2 year old Samsung Galaxy 2 got stuck in flightmode,managed to eventually get it taken off now it won't recognise the simcard so no service showing, anyone else had this? Have sent for a new simcard as some people have said a new sim has helped.
Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. :beer:
