Few questions regarding TalkTalk

Hey Guys

I have a few queries regarding TalkTalk, which I am hoping some of you may be able to help with

First of all, a little bit of background information.

We joined TalkTalk last year, and took out a brand new, 12 month contract on our new marital home, I paid £114 upfront for 12 months line rental, and took the talktalk essentials package, which was £3.25 for 9 months, and then £6.50 for 3 months. In that 12 months they put prices up twice by a £1.

Now, the contract has ended, and we are paying the full £15.95 line rental, and £8.50 a month, and naturally, I want to cut costs.

1) I used to receive my bills by email, and one month, I opted to use their speedy payment discount, within the email bill I received. Then, the following month, I didn't receive an ebill, they sent me a paper one and charged me £1.90 for doing so. They claimed the reason for this was because an email bounced back, and so as a result I had been moved to paper billing, I disputed this and they put me back to online billing, and refunded the £1.90. My online account is now set to online billing, however I now no longer receive the email bill, with the speedy payment discount. How can I arrange it so I get these again, and so I can pay with speedy payment, and benefit from the 15% discount every month? Also would the discount apply to the monthly line rental too, or just the £1.75?

2) I have seen on their homepage, that simply broadband is £1.75 a month for 12 months, including £15.95 line rental, which would be ideal for me, as we rarely use the landline. The package also claims to offer a £100 love to shop voucher, would I be eligible for this? How can I go about claiming it? When I click the link it says simply broadband not available, and try's to offer me fiber optic instead. My thinking was, that when I factor in the £100 Love2Shop voucher, it makes it a bit cheaper etc, as getting something back!

3) If I was to decide to leave TalkTalk, can I take a TalkTalk landline phone number with me to another provider, when I queried this before, they claimed I couldn't, is this true?

Lastly, is it worth me getting on the phone and threatening to leave, in the hope of getting offered a better deal with them, anybody else done this?

Sorry for so many questions, but I hope somebody can help

Cheers
Indie

Also worth saying, I cannot believe that after we got offered more expensive value line rental renewal of £141, versus the £114 last year, it's now gone up again! SHOCKING

An earlier post suggested the 15% doesn't apply to the line rental. I think that was in the thread about the TT line saver price increase.

It's always worth calling an ISP when the minimum term is up to see what they are prepared to offer to keep your business. Check with TopCashBack and Quidco to see what sort of deals are being offered.

It's up to the recipient whether or not they take your phone number not the losing provider. That said Simply will be a BT reseller and BT may not want to take TalkTalk numbers - especially if they don't fall into the same range as your exchange uses.
  • I just got offered the following deal with TalkTalk, and I'm not even 6 months into my original contract:

    Essentials with fibre with discount:
    £7.25 for 12 months = £87
    £9.25 for 6 months = £55.50
    Total over 18 months = £142.50

    Simplybroadband with fibre only:
    £8.50pm for 12 months = £102
    £13.50pm for 6 months = £81
    Total over 18 months = £183

TalkTalk only negotiate when you talk to their cancellation/retentions team, worth a phone call.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

I'm about to move into a flat that has a TalkTalk line. I have no idea what the number is, BT apparently installed it, but there seems to be no way of getting them to tell me the number. TalkTalk clearly do know that the line exists as it tells me so when I fill out their forms ...

Now I'm not sure whether signing up online without a number will get me the £100 voucher. It will mean I don't pay installation. So it's a reasonably cheap deal - I think I'm ok with broadband down the phone, rather than fibre (use internet, Remote Desktop, don't do gaming). Above all want a solid rock steady connection.

But their customer service isn't great, is it? Is anyone else's any better? I do so lament the passing of Be into the jaws of Sky ...

    Hey Guys

I have an update, I actually just received my email notification today, (freaky given I wrote how I hadn't received them on here, only last night) and the bill was as follows

    £15.95 line rental
    £8.50 for Talk Talk Essentials
    £0.27 non inclusive calls

    So came to £24.72

I clicked the speed payment discount line, and the amount was £21.01, so the 15% does come off standard line rental, but not value line rental.

Now to get on the phone and negotiate

They just made me the same offer!

Initially I quoted the MSE Plusnet offer, and told them Plusnets value line rental was much less, at £12.99 a month, so £155.58

Talk Talk said if I pay £172.20 Value line rental, they'll give me a credit of £20, so it would work out at £152.20, so cheaper than Plusnet.

They offered TalkTalk essentials + Youview for £2.25 for 12 months
Up to 38mb Fibre Optic for £5 a month

18 month contract, with the £2.25 increasing to £4.25 for remaining six months

I'm gonna try and barter them down a bit further.

My thinking is, try and get the £2.25 for the 18 months, and the £5 for fiber, pay it via speedy payment, and save even more.

I range them back and said I would go ahead with the £5 a month fibre optic deal for 18 months, however I would rather pay the £2.25 a month for 18 months for essentials, rather than £2.25 for 12 months then £4.45 for last 6 months. He firstly said they can't apply discounts that far in advance. I told him it would sway the deal, so he applied a £12 credit, which essentially meant the essentials was £2.25 a month for 18 months.

Also, if you mention you're moving to PLusnet, and lay on how plusnets value broadband is cheaper, they may apply a £20 credit off the value line rental too, as they did with me, so the value line rental works out at £152.20, which is cheaper than plusnet.

I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of switching, and am happy as I have same package, plus Youview, Plus fibre optic. So all in all, I have saved £60.20 for the next 12 months, and also getting a better package. Not only that, but I think if I pay the bill via email, I can benefit from 15% speedy pay too, so that's a saving also.

Just wanted to keep you guys updated, really lay it on how you think Plusnet is better, and they'll throw a good deal at you
