02 25 ..I need a new deal
HI guys
I've been with 02 over 6 years, tho its only been in my name for last 2.5 yrs (was in Ex hubs name..tho it was my fone)
I'm on
O2 25 (25 mins and txts, I think)
Total amount due £116.82 (inc £70 from last month, as I couldn't afford to pay £120 in full)
Total charge for calls £07.48 (46:49 mins)
Total charge for txts 17.85 (196 txts)
Total charge media msgs £00.85 (4 + free)
Basically I want a new contract with a good camera phone (K810i?) with more text than minutes for around £20 per month
I have not had any real problems with O2, apart from the rubbish contract I'm on, but I have seen some people on here have got cashback and I have seen on OSPS they have free gifts (I really would love those GHD hair straighteners)
My contract was up in February, and I phoned O2 with the intention of going on PAYG, but as usual, they tried talking me out of it, and at the time I was ill, so the last thing on my mind was which was the best deal, so I just left it.
Would I be able to upgrade now? Would there be a penalty?
If I stick with O2, whats the best kind of deal I could expect?
Also I signed up to Quidco yesterday, having spent all day on MSE and noticed people recommending it, tho I have no idea how to use it!
I hope someone can give me a gentle nudge in the right direction, I haven't had much to do with all this, hubs used to sort it all out
Thanks in advance

Few questions for you:
When did you last renew your contract? ie received a new handset? if you haven't in your entire 6 yrs then you are definitely out of contract and there shouldn't be a penalty atall. If you are happy with O2 speak to retentions to try and negotiate a good deal.
Alternatively if you are willing to go to Three they have quite good Texter contracts available (especially after taking discounts such as recommend a friend and quidco into consideration)SLC: £13000+
Quidco: £131.24 (paid) + £0 (validated) = £131.24
Valued Opinions: £75 (paid) + £52.30 (received) + £4.50 (pending) = £131.80

hi z4kir
I think it's been two years since I've had a new handset.
I was tempted by Three network, but I've since read bad reviews about the call centres (based in India) and the connections dropping, one person said they have a spare mobile on Orange for incoming calls !
I think I might stay with O2, better the devil you know?!?! merely because I am out of my depth when it comes to different contracts, tariffs etc.
I just need to know whats the best deal.
If I phone retention and offer to pay most of my bill off, will they still give me a decent offer ?0 -
Didn't realise you owed them money for previous months, this might affect your negotiations. How much line rental are you paying at the moment?
As you haven't taken out a new handset for two yrs, then you should be out of contract. If you have been spending quite a bit over your line rental then chances are you can get a better deal with retentions.
Call the Disconnections (Retentions) Dept on 0800 0288151, briefly explain to them you are thinking of cancelling as you feel you are not getting value for money and soon as you settle the account you intend on leaving. Also state that you have not had a new handset for two yrs now and you are aware that people who do not normally get £100 credited to their account. So it's obviously benefited them and been at a detriment to yourself.
See what they offer you and don't accept it straight away, tell them to note it on the account and that you will call back with your final decision.SLC: £13000+

My monthly line rental at the moment is £13.62
They put me on the lowest tariff ..hence the 25 mins/txts.0 -

You have to and have to call them then, your obviously on the wrong tariff for your needs! Though amounting £70 must mean you've either not paid your bills in ages or dreadfully going over your allowance!
On another note, why your friend carries an orange sim for their 3 contract is beyond me, since if you have no 3g coverage then the 3 sim uses the orange network as a backup. (I'm with 3 n have no problems with reception).
