There was another i found via mse, but can't remember it. Basically tells you how likely it is you'll be stabbed by your neighbours.

Nottingham is a sh!thole bar a few areas, think salford and moss side pre renovation. Sherwood crap, bulwell and radford especially are pits. East nottingham is much better, bingham, radcliffe on trent areas to go for if you really must live there
This seems a decent site to compare areas

Nottingham held your current crime stats many years ago due the one man named Gunn ironically, now imprisoned. It was also gang upon gang on estates so why would that bother the OP?
Every time I see a stabbing it's Manchester, every time.0 -
The city's excellent transport links make it the ideal location from which to explore. Local, regional, national and international travel couldn't be easier from here. Furthermore, due to its variety of public transport and cycle routes, Nottingham has been named as the least car dependent city in the UK.0

Thanks guys, will use these as a basis for my search
Jaydeeuk1 - I'm fully aware that there are parts of Nottingham that are run down (as there is everywhere) but I don't think the comparison to Salford or Moss Side is fair, certainly not the limited bits I've seen.
And the buses confuse the hell out of me, but that's only because Stockport and manchester are run by pretty much 1 operator and the bus pass is one price, I suppose I need to find somewhere to live before trying to work out the passes available on the operatorsI know the rules of punctuation and grammer I just choose to ignore them (or forget them half the time)... Apologies in advance0 -
I bought my first house in Long Eaton (the part near J25 of the M1). Not the greatest of areas by any means, but quiet, safe and quite a decent community with good neighbours. Used to cycle commute up to the science park (just on the other side of the railway line from where you will be).
Beeston would be a good option as you could walk to work.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -

I agree that Rushcliffe is lovely, in fact it was recently ranked seventh best place in the country for quality of life. For reasonable commuting distance to Lenton I'd look at West Bridgford, Wilford, possibly Wollaton plus places in Rushcliffe.
I've lived in Lenton, Beeston, West Bridgford, Wilford and a village in Ruddington. Lenton is studentville; Beeston is semi studentville.0 -
Although thinking about it, from a lot of places to get the bus to Lenton you'd have to go via the City Centre. Living close (e.g. Wilford) and walking/cycling might be a better option.
West Bridgford is probably the best option for young professionals; it has a lively, upmarket atmosphere and is well linked. There are also lots of house shares.0 -

If buying you get a lot more for your money in Beeston, I was looking in West Bridgford a one bed cottage was 160K it was lovely but for that price I got a really great 3 bed terraced house in the "nicer" part of Beeston.0
