TalkTalk Offering more for less...

  • The Loyalty Team at TalkTalk credited my account with £31 as a good will gesture for my concerns about whether the VLR renewal (added to my next bill according to one of their managers I spoke to on 8th September) will attract the SPD 15% discount on the day the bill is generated (4th October for me) or not. The kind lady from Loyalty Team told me, that the discount should go through for the whole of amount on my bill (monthly charge and all added one off charges, incl VLR).

Now I can have a peace of mind even if it does not, because of the Loyalty Team's good will gesture.

I will update my story here when the bill comes. :)
  • I had a similar experience yesterday when I rang Talktalk to arrange a home move.

I am on the Essentials TV package (Youview TV, broadband, free evening and weekend calls, and line rental) and was paying £21.95 per month, contract ending May 2016.

My mum who is also with Talktalk, said she had been quoted £17.70 per month without calls, so when I rang them yesterday to arrange a home move, I thought I would ask if I could reduce my bill in any way.

They offered me the same package for £18.20 per month (half price broadband plus £2 credit to my account, for 12 months) so I am now saving £3.75 per month. It meant that I was entering a new 12 month contract, but as I still had 20 months left on my previous contract, it means that my contract with them will finish 8 months earlier if I want to cancel :j

I would urge anyone to ring Talktalk to see if they can reduce their bill!! Fab customer service!

My bill was generated on 4th October. The bill total included the previously mentioned Value Line Rental as One Off charge. My Speedy Payment Discount window was open today 6th October (became available after 10am). I could not bear to wait for the TalkTalk email with the SPD link. Instead, I went to my TalkTalk account and selected Make Card Payment and the link for 15% off was there. After hitting the link, the 15% discount was applied to whole total of my bill (including the VLR One Off Charge). Paid with my credit card and now peace of mind and relax!

So. The SPD can be applied to the VLR after all. I think this might work best for those, who currently have the VLR and it is running out in a month or two. First, You have to ask kindly the TalkTalk adviser to add the new VLR as a one off charge to Your next bill. When this is confirmed, You just wait for Your SPD window and get peace of mind by saving a few £s using SPD.

From 1st November the Speedy Payment Discount will be 10%.

Speedy Payment remains a unique way to save money when being a TalkTalk customer.

It will be a little less, but still a substantial discount.

Hope, that my experience with TalkTalk helps some of You here at MSE
  • Unfortunately I got to speak to two very patronising people whose version of loyalty to a customer who stayed 5 years after end of contract was the usual upgrade to fibre. First gentleman claimed I was already getting free broadband. They both insinuated that I was lying when I told them the deal I could get from BT. I ended the call angry, exhausted and disappointed.

Tried online chat but I was too livid to continue so asked for someone from Retentions to ring me with a deal please. Nothing.

Email yesterday resulted in reply stating 3-5 days before they would get back to me.

BT's offer looking better by the minute.

I never understand why people think they deserve deals for 'loyalty'. Loyalty is an outdated concept both from a businesses point of view, and a consumers. Neither are 'loyal' and both are out for the best deal they can get.

If you are being loyal, I assume it is because they are already the cheapest you can get. If they are not, surely it is senseless to still be with them and effectively throwing money away?!?

At the moment, you haven't said you have asked to cancel. Why would they offer a deal to a customer who has been happily paying them what was asked for the last 5 years with no indication they are willing to leave?
  • Yes, I told them I was going to cancel. Trying to haggle a new deal as per Martin's advice.

    Hi Boannbird,

If you contact us on the TalkTalk Community, or tweet us @TalkTalkCare we can arrange for someone to contact you to discuss renewal options with you. If you let them know the competitor deal you have been offered we can see what we have available to match it (or better if we can).

    Cheers
