Honeymoon - August 2015

Hi everyone

I am getting married on the 7th August 2015 and looking for Honeymoon suggestions - we are looking for an all inclusive holiday costing us about £5000 for us both for 10 to 14 nights.

We are thinking of Maldives, St Lucia, Mexico or Canada but we haven't traveled long haul much so any suggestions would be welcome.

We were a bit worried about the Maldives being rainy season as there are mixed reviews on August.

Does anyone have any suggestions for locations that will be hot, stunning, clear waters to go snorkeling? Would be nice to have something else to do but we would equally be happy to have a stunning beach holiday.

Thank you so much!

Thank you for the suggestion, we really want to do a long haul destination though as we figured its a good chance for us to splurge on something we will probably never do again!

  • Palm Island in the Grenadines - we went for our honeymoon and it was fantastic! Beautiful clear waters. As its beneath the hurricaine belt, it is fine to go during the hurricaine season. In fact we always go to the eastern Carribean during summer/hurricaine season.

The Canadian Rockies have incredible scenery (especially along the Icefields Parkway). In summer the temperatures there are generally warm and comfortable but not extremely hot. However, it would be a long way from there to any beaches that you could lay out on to sunbathe.

In California you could combine the magnificent scenery of Yosemite with the surfing and sunbathing beaches on the southern part of the Pacific Coast Highway, plus San Francisco if that appealed to you.

In the southeastern USA, you could combine the coast of Florida and maybe Georgia with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. However, that part of the USA in mid-summer might be too hot and humid for you.

BTW with any of those options you'd really need to do a road trip style holiday because the distances are so vast.

Sorry, I realise none of those are ideal choices, and I can't help with regard to snorkelling.

  • August is the middle of the rainy season in the Maldives, but the prices do reflect this. Most the time you will get a very heavy shower that lasts less than an hr and then everything is bright and sunny again. You do occasionally get days of it being overcast and rainy though. You'll never get Maldives anywhere near as cheap but it is a gamble.

Mexico is also in its rainy season then but probably less risk of days of cloud and more high humidity. St Lucia adds hurricane season to its rainy season but at least for these two its more the start of it than the middle and so risks arent as high.

How about going further a field to the likes of Indonesia, Fiji etc where August is the ideal time to go? Of cause prices will reflect this though

I've just come back from Maldives, went at the end of July which is also rainy season, it rained twice while we were there, both times for about an hour, we went snorkeling during one of them, we were going to be getting wet anyway!

From speaking to people who have been many more times than us, they often go in the rainy season as its cheaper and it doesn't really rain that much. You fear the worse, but its only really rain in bursts.

I went to Vilamendhoo and would highly recommend it

We went to St Lucia in May, so I don't know about the weather in August. However, we stayed at Windjammer Landing, which had 4 restaurants (all inclusive option available), which really helped ring the changes food-wise. They also did activities in the pool (e.g. aqua fit) and free snorkelling kit and canoes to borrow. The snorkelling was great just off the beach.

The whole place is different villas/apartments, so you get a kitchen/fridge and lounge area, depending on the accommodation you book. It is on the side of a hill, but they do shuttle buses around the complex, although we decided to walk everywhere so that we could enjoy more of the delicious food!

This website has loads of good pictures, professional and visitors...

We've been to Cancun & Barbados in August, had a bit of rain, one day in Cancun it rained on & off for most of the day & one heavy shower one evening. In Barbados, a couple of brief but heavy showers lasting 15 minutes or so, that was it. It was very humid in both places though.

Barbados is off the main hurricane path so has never been a concern in August, I'm not sure about the rest of the Caribbean Islands, we've been to St.Lucia in early September & it was fine.

Have a great wedding, honeymoon & marriage!

Thanks everyone! Still unsure as even though the Maldives is cheaper during August, I think I would still prefer to go somewhere that was hot during the day so we can relax on the beach and drink cocktails etc!

Hadn't thought of Fiji so thank you will check that out. Otherwise I will look at Caribbean and below the hurricane belt.

    Thanks again :-) :-)
