Help Refused mortgage for 19p?

We are trying to buy a house and using Leeds building society for mortgage. They have refused our application based on adverse credit. On my report it actually says I have excellent credit score but that I'm a poor payer based on missed payments from e-on. I called e-on to discuss and it turns out that in 2012 I missed a payment for 19p as the bill was £240.19 and I only paid £240. Is this really reasonable given that my only other blip was 2009 for a late payment? I am actually in credit with my credit cards and e-on. I really stressed out now as we need to reserve our house on fir and I have no mortgage and worried that I won't get one now. Can anyone shed some light on this?

You don't have a credit score, let alone an "excellent" one as they don;t exist.

Yes, it is fair. The amount is not in question - it's your correct management of the account that is. How many missed payments are showing on file?
  • You could ask E-on to remove it for being a faithful customer and as it was a genuine mistake, doesn't hurt to ask. If they won't remove it, there's not much you can do. I'm very surprised that you would be refused a mortgage for that though.

Being in credit on credit cards is not a good thing, and is usually against the T&C's of the credit card contract.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

There are other mortgage companies that are not so pathetic. Did E-on chase you for the 19p or just add it onto the next bill?

3 from e-on and 1 from vodka phone 2009. I am in credit on my banks credit card not by much but still I am a good payer and have everything on d/d. No store cards and only £700 on my credit card soon to be 350 by end of month. I just don't get how for 19p this is fair. I called e-on they said there is nothing they can do as it went down as a missing payment and it was too long ago for them to do anything.

I honestly can't remember... I get online statements and never check them. Rookie mistake!

Well that's just the computer saying no. You need a broker to assist you. There shouldn't be a problem if it's manually checked.

Hmm. Hopefully, never been refused credit before. It's just frustrating, I have friends that could get a mortgage and they constantly have debt collectors at the door and had half the deposit we have. Sods law

That's a broad statement. Perhaps a combination of factors has triggered a decline.

is it a 95% mortgage? are you on the edge of your affordability?

What is the report saying is it saying 00012300000 or something else?

Are the accounts showing in good order now?

Leeds BS has a rep for being picky.
