landlord won't give me gas engineers details

We had a gas engineer round earlier to fix our boiler and when I checked the boiler after the work, the cover wasn't replaced properly and the pressure was too high.

This made me worry and so I asked my landlord for his details so I could check he was gas safe registered (would have asked for his I'd myself if I was here when he did it). My landlord said he was registered, so I asked for his details so that I could double check and she refuses to give them to me.

I don't know what to do as I have no idea if the work that has been done is safe or not, I can't afford to get it checked out myself (and I shouldn't need to). Please can anyone help.

  • Obviously the refusal to give me his details has made me worry even more especially as she ignored me when I asked why she wouldn't give me his details.

Normally the tenant if there signs for the paperwork and a copy is left at the property where the inspection took place. I think you have a right to see the paperwork which should include the name of the engineer-That is if it is a yearly inspection- a repair is a different kettle of fish. Find out when teh appliance was checked and ask for that paperwork! (needs to be done yearly

you do have a right to see the gas safe certificate
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

She said I will get a copy of the safety certificate on Friday(which it's already late), though this is a different matter, this was just a repair and I fear that if he wasn't gas safe registered then it may not be safe especially as she refuses to give me his details.

And as I said cover wasn't replaced properly and the pressure is too high.

If it's the same engineer who did the annual safety inspection, then you must by law be given a copy of the cert, so maybe look for his details on that, assuming you have a copy? If you were not given a copy on, your LL is liable for a heavy fine or potentially even a term of imprisonment.
But why didn't you check his GSR status before you allowed him into the property?
Higher water pressure on a combi does not mean the boiler is unsafe, and it's not gas-related. Just bleed a rad until the pressure is correct again.

When did you take up the tenancy/when was the previous safety cert dated?
The LL is not obliged to give you the engineer's details, because he is not contracted by you.
But the LL certainly is obliged to comply with the regs concerning the annual inspection.

Yeah they aint registered. Why would you hide it and do bad work if they were. Hope you got it sorted and a co detector.

That's what I think, if he is registered why would you not just give me his details. Don't know if it's the same person who did the gas safety check.

We moved in 3 months ago, I asked when we moved in to have the certificate and she said she would post it. I reminded her a month later and this is when we had a guy round to do the safety check. I wasn't home at the time, but my husband was so I asked him to make sure to get our copy of the certificate from him. He said he asked and the engineer said we would get it from Carol, which I thought was a bit weird as I know there's a copy specifically for the tenant. If I had have known he would say this I would have asked my husband to check his card.

As I say though these may not be related as it may well be a different engineer.

So after 3 months tenancy you still don't have the cert? You need to deal with this immediately. The LL has 28 days from the check to supply a copy of the cert, and when you moved in you should have been given a copy of the current one (if it existed) there and then. the law requires:
You must provide existing tenants with a copy of the gas safety check record within 28 days of the check being completed. You must provide a copy of the gas safety check record to prospective tenants before they move in.
Tell your LL in writing that she has 48 hours to supply a copy or you will report her. This is a serious criminal offence.
PS: has your LL lodged your desposit properly? Based on the above I rather doubt it.
