Yes, Tesco are very good in that you never pay more for a replacement than you would for the item you ordered. They do get some strange substitutions though.0

I had a delivery with Sainsbury's where I ordered a product that was, say, 1kg and on offer at £10. They said it was out of stock and sent me two 500g packs of the same product which weren't on offer and cost £20. I sent the items back so it didn't matter, but when I e-mail Sainsbury's I was helpfully told that their IT system was not as sophisticated as that of some other supermarkets and the staff weren't allowed to change prices.
It wasn't a great issue but something similar happened with Tesco shortly afterwards and they did use their initiative and gave even better value than I had ordered. The end result was that I just moved to Tesco.
Personally I do think that supermarkets should offer substitutes at no extra cost to the customer to what was originally ordered, not from a legal angle but just in terms of customer service.
This is the same reason I gave up with Sainsburys home delivery, as their substitutions either cost me a fortune or meant I had to go without.
ASDA had awful customer service so didn't like them either.
Tesco are usually really good with substitutions, and so are Ocado.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I use Tesco as well, I had a delivery this week and took advantage of alot of their promotions. I checked the receipt and found that I have been charged and the full price, got a refund of just under £15.00 in total! No quibble with customer service, so kudos to them.
Whenever they provide a substitution for something that is out of stock, they price match and you never pay more for the replacement.0 -
I'd never think of complaining when I get a bigger joint, I just cut it up and freeze it.
I do like that most of the time a sub is worth more & you don't get charged for extra.
Years ago I was doing a shop for my mother (she gets Ok & hello). One was out of stock so the dumbo who was picking thought it was a good idea to put another copy of the other one in.0 -
I regularly have home delivery shops from Te8co. Since they changed the minimum spend to just £25, I've tried to keep my shops relatively small as when I've had shops pushing the £100 price tag and (usually) more, its been hard to keep track of everything. My hall carpet becomes a sea of shopping bags and its harder to spot if something is amiss. Sometimes the drivers are very helpful about changes to the delivery - but I have had the odd occasion when they have pointed out the substitutes and the unavailable items but haven't mentioned the short dated items....
I've always found Te8co customer service to be efficient and customer focused.
I've had the odd annoying substitute and I agree about if something is missing from an offer and you get charged more for less.
I've had the odd problem with weighed items. (sometimes overcharged) but generally I find them quite efficient. I do get annoyed that they don't pay attention when you make a specific request but I suppose they must do so many shops, that they don't pay proper attention0 -

PFFT this happened to me today with my Te9co meal deal - wine substituted for non offer wine so paid £16.34 for my £10 meal deal and paid £7.01 for my beer instead of the offer price of £6. I wouldn't mind but there were plenty of other choices that they could have picked from :mad:0 -
I use them too along with del saver anytime - so can do a small order of £25 ish or larger where needed. Recently had some fun with paracetamol tablets - ordered 2 packs of the caplet style as I have problems taking the round ones. Along came round ones so caled CS around 9pm. She refunded the 46p, but I did not have what was ordered, so I had to re order the tablets & pay the £4 excess charge, which was deducted, then it also wanted to charge me del on top so it was going to be extra £9. A glitch. Got sent a £5 refund on top, so free drugs +£5. However I cannot get counter quiche - alway OOS. 3 weeks now. Other than that they are v good, but my latest compare price voucher was £2.74 which very high for us.0

I had exactly the same thing with the pork this week too, normally shop with Ocado but had a good few offers at tesco plus the Ariel Actilift was half price at £5.50
I called them and got refunded and kept the item and cut it in half.0 -
We use Tesco click & collect weekly & generally have very few problems.
The other week though, we had ordered one bottle of Sauvignon Blanc & two bottles of white Merlot. When hubby collected the shopping, he didn't take any notice of the substitution, when he got home, the 2 bottles of Merlot were there but not the Sauvignon but instead of putting either a different Sauvignon in or another bottle of white merlot, the picker put in a Spanish White wine :rotfl:
I couldn't be bothered to drive the 10 mile round trip to return it for an exchange so put it in the fridge and it eventually got opened and it wasn't the worst :-)0 -
I didn't think Tesco charged more for their substitution?0
