My son has been given an original Orange San Fransisco which despite it's age works well enough. We don't understand one symbol which is located on the swipe pull down menu.

We have downloaded a PDF of the manual but can't seem to see this symbol listed.

Basically, when you swipe down the screen a menu bar appears. We understand the other menu icons, such as brightness, WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth, but there is one symbol we don't know and would be grateful for a heads up. The symbol looks like a SIM card with two opposite direction horizontal arrows on it. It doesn't seem to be aeroplane mode which is accessible from another menu

We're guessing it might be to turn data on or off but would welcome any input.

Edit: Just realised that this phone doesn't seem to have the original firmware. Perhaps upgraded by previous owner, hence why symbol isn't showing in PDF manual.

Thanks.

H.

The 2 arrows icon on an Android phone generally mean data on/off, so I would think your guess is right.

It's probably got CM7 on it, a decent upgrade from it's stock (and never updated) 2.1

I'd say if it looks like a SIM card, it could be that it is telling you that there is no SD card inserted?
  • Thank you all for the replies.

@d123 ~ I think you are right, after checking can't see anything else it controls.

@Rusty! ~ Again I think you are right. It certainly isn't the stock firmware and the name Froyo rings a bell from somewhere.

@ste_wilko ~ It does have a functioning SD card fitted, albeit quite a low capacity. This icon is actually a touchable button to turn on or off the service, so data looks like the most probable option.

    Cheers guys.

Since April 2009, Android versions have been developed under a confectionery-themed code name and released in alphabetical order; the exceptions are versions 1.0 and 1.1:
    • Android alpha (1.0)
    • Android beta (1.1)
    • Cupcake (1.5)
    • Doughnut (1.6)
    • Eclair (2.0–2.1)
    • Froyo (2.2–2.2.3)
    • Gingerbread (2.3–2.3.7)
    • Honeycomb (3.0–3.2.6)
    • Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0–4.0.4)
    • Jelly Bean (4.1–4.3.1)
    • KitKat (4.4–4.4.4)
