Hello
I have paperless billing with a few companies at the mo including nationwide current and credit card with £2000 on it. First went to barclays to ask about stopping paper statements as i do all my banking on line, she said i couldn't stop completely and would have to have at least annual one, oh well. Then emailed barclaycard and they came back with "Unfortunately we are unable to stop sending out paper statements bypost. As a financial institution, we are legally bound to send hard copy statements to all cardholders if there is a balance owing on their account."
So how can other banks get away with not providing paper statements as i have an option with mint to do it and egg have always been online only. So much for trying to be green and save paper. Rant over!

Ask them under what specific law or regulation requires them to do this."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

markiepat,
You should write them a letter asking for their reasons.
lol...0 -
why dont you ask the other companies who provide paperless billing why they are allowed?
according to their adverts, nationwhile have no shareholders... so maybe the reason is because barclays is part of a whole bigger company with tighter rules.....?0 -
I love paperless billing. It means I can spend loads on my credit card and the wife is none the wiser.0

Hi there guys! I had much the same gripes about them not doing paperless statements, as ALL my other banks and credit card companies DO provide this service! However, I took the opportunity to gripe at them for this, and embarrass them with the fact that other companies have long been doing this, and they have officialy announced that Paperless statements are due in 2009! (just thought I'd pass this on!!) They were a bit vague as to when in 2009, but the more of us that write to them demanding this, the quicker they will pull their fingers out!
Here's a quick hyperlink to where you can write to them.....

That's because Barclaycard love sending out those nasty little credit card cheques with your statement in the hopes that you will use one and make them lots of money. We get at least one cheque every month each (this month it was two).0

I tried calling and the call centre person didn't even know what paperless billing was! I got the same response from an email query:
Thank you for your e-mail.
Unfortunately we are unable to stop sending out paper statements by post. As a financial institution, we are legally bound to send hard copy statements to all cardholders if there is a balance owing on their account.Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me again.

I too would love to see Barclaycard start offering paperless statements. I've contacted them using the form provided and will post back here with any further information. Keep asking them - the more people wanting this, the more likely they will start doing paperless billing.
Don't worry, they can still send you the credit card cheques - I have paperless billing with my Virgin card but they still sent out the credit card cheques every few weeks!
There is an address on the letter that comes with the cheques (from almost all credit cards) - you can write to them and ask that they stop sending the cheques.
This saves paper, but also stops you being tempted to use them!0 -
Strange, MBNA have switched my CC account to paperless billing - so why can't Barclaycard?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
