A brompton would be the answer. Not the answer wanted but still...0

As I said before its not really viable but better than the other options, btw they pay NMW and its a 3 month trial period, then I think the money goes up a little0

You would probably earn 60 in an 8 hour shift plus it won't be set hours even though you say work will give Rota in advance, what I mean by set hours is the minimum they will giv you lik someone full time would have set hous of 35 hours a week. With a 0 hour contract they can chop and change your hours so it's not consistent.
They will say oh we will deffo give you such and such hours a week to lure you in them they can chnage their minds to give you less as your minimum number of hours they must give you will be 0 as it's a 0 hour contract.
Seriously if it's not practical to get back from is it really worth it losing more than half your wages on taxis thus less money to live on. Can you practically live on wages that change each week if you getaid weekly or monthly.Mortgage free wannabe

How much do KFC pay that spending £60 on taxis a week is a viable option?!
If the OP gets 30 hours pw as he thinks, he'll clear between £180/190, which will give him a good bit more than on JSA and help him to avoid having his benefits sanctioned.
He may also get tax credits on top of this.0 -
You got to sit down and work out where your money will go if you get this job plus compare it with the money from jsa. You have to see would you be better off with this job with taking this job doing only two shifts then paying for £60 taxi. Work out how much that would leave you to pay for stuff. You then need to see if your better off staying on jsa until a more stable job comes around.Mortgage free wannabe

Drivers in rush hour are surrounded by activity which helps to keep them alert. They will expect other road users to be around and plan accordingly.
Drivers at night have less activity - are they really going to be mindful of encountering a cyclist at midnight, in fog or heavy rain etc, on a single carriageway when they are just going home after a couple of bevvies at the local?
Here are a few other risks:
- particularly in winter, temperatures drop at night and fog may roll in, roads ice up and there is less throughput to keep the surfaces clear
- driver visibility reduces at night eg light reflecting off rain on the screen, fogged up interiors etc
- different types of driver at midnight may increase chances of encountering someone with fatigue, drink, drugs etc
- have a wobble / fall and there's no one around to see
- get into an accident and there's no one around to help
As a cyclist you'll know that it's all about assessing the risk and minimising it... The dark, the time, the temperatures in winter will all increase the risks - and it's a 20 mile round trip after a shift of standing for hours.
I wouldn't do it.
Nonsense, cycling isn't as dangerous as alot of people seem to think.
i've cycled plenty at night, and it certaintly isn't any more dangerous.
The majority of cycling deaths/serious injuries actually happen during the day, not at night.
in fact, i've only had a few accidents while cycling, all of them happened during the day.
plus, its not even winter yet, its still summer, you can always take on the job then find another way to get to work during the winter, or find another job later.0 -
I will be doing more than 2 shifts a week looking at about 5 a week but only 2 night shifts0

Can you get a fold up bike, that way you can get the bus to work and cycle home until you have the ££ to get a moped etc. My husband just sold his on Gumtree for £50 so this may be an option for you.0

You live in an area of high unemployment, with a massive over supply of unskilled workers. You have been unemployed for a very long time. I can't believe people are discouraging you from going for the job!
Go for it. Winter transport may not be an issue, you could have something else by then. Nil hours is not ideal but it's better than nothing at all. Plus think of what it will do for your self esteem. Good luck.0
