You might want to drop into StreetView mode to look at them and their surroundings.

Have you considered Super 8:

To be honest, no we haven't considered Super8 & Hotel6, Embassy/Homewood are our default settings (that fit the Cats lifestyles:beer:). Having a seperated bedroom from the living room works reeally well for us and with Homewood/Embassy we know thats going to happen (nearly) every time. Quite a few other chains advertise as having suites, but in reality and no better than a room with a divider.0 -
Ah, you felines like luxury it seems! Fair enough, but for me Motel 6 is quite the dog's whatsits."Such an enormous country, you realize when you cross it" - Jack Kerouac0

We do enjoy our holidays and for the sake of a few $$$ a night more (or no extra if you include the free breakfasts, free evening meals/welcome home reception & free drinks), the Homewoods/Embassys add to our holiday enjoyment.
In 10 years, we're yet to stay at a Homewood/Embassy that has been anything less than excellent.0 -

On the god side, I've got some HHonors miles that I can pay for a room with -- and I can get a extra bedroomed suite for the same miles as a standard room.
I've not looked at IHG hotels, as Hiltons Homewood Suites/Embassy Suites do what we're looking for (& accumulate HHonors miles at a refreshingly quick rate)
Odd about Lubbock. That was one of our cheapest nights. Maybe there is an event on?
The Candlewood and Staybridge are the equal of the Homewoods/Embassy. Holiday Inn and HI Express suites are also worth looking at.
We got a suite in Holiday Inn Express DFW North for $19 a night and it was as nice a room as any Homewood we've stopped in. $19!!!0 -

There must be something going on whilst in the timescale that I'm looking to be in Lubbock - I can get an Embassy Suites, suite room for $151 including breakfast for 4, and evening drinks & snacks in a suite room. But nothing at a Candlewood/Staybridge. If I change the date slightly, rooms do become available, but they are for studio rooms , rather than suites, so it's like comparing apples with peras.
In the time BC, I was happy to to take pot luck and look for hotels as a walk in - in my time I got some real bargains, but I alos wasted valuable holiday time door knocking and seeing what was available and on several occassions I ended up staying in somewhere that I wouldn't have chosen to.
I'm a great believer in value over cost and for me, prebbooking quality accomodation that fits every criteria for my family is worth a lot more than 'saving' a few $$$'s on a room.
I realise that this isn't somethiung that some people on here would find an attractive proposition, but it would be a cold day in hell that I rolled into a new town/city and spent my time trawlking around to find somewhere to stay :beer:0 -
Would it be worth investigating the towns in the Lubbock area, or do you especially want to stay there?"Such an enormous country, you realize when you cross it" - Jack Kerouac0

Staying in the Lubbock (or Amarillo) area will be just for 1 night and is just so we can break the journey from Dallas/Austin to Alberquerque.
I'll look for something to do enroute, rather than in Lubbock/Austin, or maybe a baseball game at night if there's one on offer.0 -

I guess you are going to Palo Duro & Caprock Canyons?
Taking Texas Highway 70 North from Abilene is a lovely drive and you could stop in Turkey.
Then going to Palo Duro and Caprock in the same day will mean you only pay one fee.
And the Hotel Turkey gives a lovely slice of non-chain Texan charm....

I liked Palo Duro. You can view it from the rim, then drive down to the bottom and look up. Also, most of the visitors there seemed to be locals out for the day rather than tourists. More info: http://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/palo-duro-canyon and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzQweCM3Lj0
Sorry, I've never been to Caprock."Such an enormous country, you realize when you cross it" - Jack Kerouac0
