I'd of been really peed off being the OP's waiter/waitress after serving them and not getting a tip.

Not the restaraunts fault that the four people decided to insult the OP for not turning up.

Everyman and his dog knows that restaurants charge per head, irrelevant whether a few fail to turn up. Everyone knows that in these days, thats why you get people to commit by taking a deposit.

    Come on!

YOU ARE HAVING A LAUGH. SINCE WHEN DOES EVERYONE KNOW THAT RESTAURANTS CHARGE PER HEAD. THIS HAS NEVER BEEN THE CASE BEFORE FOR ME OR ANY OF MY FRIENDS. SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE TALKING A LOAD OF B:eek:

Oh dear....firstly stop writing in capitals. Secondly stop swearing. Thirdly reread the thread and all your answers will come.

Now my little monkeyman, did you not know that when you order something you pay for it. Now you also know that when you book a table the restaraunt charges a service charge per head.

If you or your friends didnt know that then you probably havent been to restaurant. I wouldnt regard a kebab house a restaurant nor Mcdonalds.

If you dont believe me then ring a local restaurant (not a kebab shop or mcdonalds) and request a table for 20, then ask what would happen if 4 people didnt turn up. Ask them if they would charge for the unfilled four seats (as in service charge per head).

Go on, ring them,......hurry up .....stop blubbing and pick up the phone!

See, told you so! You can look all dow eyed and goofy.....its ok.

My 'Concise Oxford English Dictionary' defines 'Service Charge' as 'an additional charge for service in a restaurant, hotel etc' so I can't see how the above statement about it being applied when you book a table can be true.

Dangeroussports, your comment above would seem to indicate that you're possibly not as clued-up as you would like to think you are.

So what the restaurant is saying is by 4 people not showing up it has had a major impact on their nights takings, to the tune of £13 per head plus service charge? The business must be in bad shape then!

For a set meal, where its all pre-ordered and prepared I would have expected and accepted a charge for 20 people, regardless of how many turned up. The price would have been agreed and I would have paid a deposit. However just booking 20 seats and having 16 turn up means little to the restaurant so I would have asked them to justify the £13 charge. Extra food? Are they psychic, did they know what we were going to order before we even entered the restaurant, or did they just order 20 extra of everything on the menu - just incase? Extra staff? So you are saying if we booked for only 16 then you would have taken out a quarter of the required staff? Maybe, cut out a quarter of the waiter or maybe they could work one-handed? Honestly...

After shooting down any of their attempts to justify daylight robbery, I certainly would not be giving them the service charge! And if the staff feel aggrieved, well maybe they should question managements poor decisions? If they want to recieve a tip then perhaps they should work in a restaurant where its management has a clue?
Faith is believing what you know ain't so...

Do you look in a dictionary for everything? How incredibly stupid.

    Just ring a restaurant.
