What i used to do if i was booking a meal out for a large group is take the money off them before you book it so you have thier money in your purse if they dont turn up.Then if they didnt turn up tell them you had to pay their share out of thier money. everyone will turn up then.

To be honest, I am not sure that the additional charging is about what is legally correct. This is all about customer service, good customer service and maintaining a good reputation. All 16 of us have walked away with a real bad impression of the place and we will be telling our family, friends, workmates etc really anyone that wants to hear about our "bad" experience. I'm positive that this will cost Jeffers much much more than his £57 additional cost :rotfl: :rotfl:

As i said the place is called JEFFERS, it is owned by a bloke called stephen jeffers and is in BANGOR in Northern Ireladn

did the missing people order the meal in advance (ie pick what they wanted from the menu ??)

if not then the restaurant would not have had extra expense,

Actually they probably would have. When you work in a restaurant you get to know what each day is going to be like, it sounds daft but you can see a pattern to the days - fri, sat always busy, monday less so etc etc. From my own experience if I knew that I was going to have 20 people in on top of what I normally would do on a (say) Tuesday night, then I'd order extra in. Most restaurants can predict what'll be popular too, so you'd order extra of the popular stuff to make sure that you had enough. Not to mention that at the very least you'll need extra veg/salad/garnishes. Also, it's not the food that's the only cost - for twenty extra people, I'd imagine that the restaurant had one extra staff member front of house at least.

However, they still shouldn't have charged that much, as it's going to loose them business. There's a saying in the restaurant business that if a customer has a good meal they'll tell 5 people, if they have a bad one they'll tell 25. It's so very true.
