Hi Sue - I am trying to instil a sense of money management into DS - often feels like I'm fighting a losing battle but he's still young and maybe I expect more maturity than I should.0

Work is still busy, can't believe how quickly the weeks are passing. However am finding work a much more positive experience than I did last year. Be ironic if they actually made me redundant now when they rejected my application before Christmas :rotfl:
DH has arranged for a local kitchen design company to come over Saturday. We have a few things we need/want to do with our kitchen and its really hard to know where to stop - guess we need to group things into must do and would like to do so starter for 10
NEED TO DO
replace floor - must do- it buckles!
replace sink - is in shocking state
replace hob - see above
replace work surface - getting rather tatty
WOULD LIKE TO DO
fit larder cupboard - really fancy one but that is not a must have
increase dining space - remove end 2 cupboards?
replace cupboard doors- fancy something shiny now
replace tiles -they seem dated now
have walls redecorate
No idea what the kind of bottom price a kitchen company charges - its a real chicken and egg situation isn't it? Just want to maximise funds but our kitchen is quite tatty and was a pretty budget buy when we had it installed.0 -
Well kitchen design company was a bust -it's basically a full refit or nothing, can't just get cupboard doors replaced and keep the carcasses etc. He gave us a ball park figure of £16-18k. Our budget is around £10k less than that! I think the salesman appreciated our candour. At least with it being a local company not a big chain he didn't do a hard sell on finance options.
So back to the drawing board on that one.
Went shopping with mum this morning to start looking at curtains. Not much joy but at least I have more of an idea of whats around etc. Will do some research on line but won't order without either seeing in store or getting hold of some swatches.
DH just at the chippy getting supper this is neither cost saving or healthy. :eek:0 -
Just did my online shop with S@insburys -they are voucher mad at the moment - had another pack of money off vouchers through the post this week - £4.50 off any spend over £30.
There is also now a voucher wallet on the checkout screen and mine already had another £6 savings in it which I clicked! So all in all over £15 off my weekly shop :j The week when I have no vouchers is going to be very traumatic as I've had vouchers every week for ages now...
Off out for lunch today to celebrate DS's birthday - can't believe my baby is 14 - taller than me, getting a fuzzy chin and a bit spotty!0 -
The week is plodding on, had to nip to the supermarket Monday night as we had run out of tea bags. Actually managed to just buy tea bags which i think is a first normally end up with a fair few impulse items.
The lounge redecoration is not far away now as it's being done straight after Easter. I have been looking at curtains to replace the 15 yr old frayed pair currently in situ. Also need to buy paint so might do that this weekend.0 -
Sorry to hear about your ISA - how gutting! Fingers crossed that it goes up soon.Mortgage (Start Sep 2014)- £70,295/£0 - 100%
Overpayments - £48829.37 :j:j:j
Mortgage paid off Jan 20200 -
Ouch on the kitchen, you do wonder how they manage to stack up to be that much :mad:Debt Free Diary - Second Chances! Life in a Tourer........Debt free, building a savings pot0

Hi Sue - yes totally, the thing that annoys me the most about these things is the over complex pricing structure. I fear we will have to go to a chain kitchen company as they will be cheaper and hopefully we can do the bits we want and not have a full refit. Trouble is they will likely do more of a hard sell.0 -
I agree, a few years ago my mum had hers done, very nice white high gloss BUT.....................they only have a galley kitchen with 4 floor and wall units down one side and the same on the other :eek::eek::eek::eek: £8,000 What a shock (rip off-didn't say that mind :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:)
I am planning on having a freebie design back end this year and breakdown what I need and buy in the sale but the back extension needs to come first which requires patio doors (widen original door) new side glass door (ebay buy as it's a new hole) ceiling and tiles
not a lot really....................ohhhh where's me power tools :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Debt Free Diary - Second Chances! Life in a Tourer........Debt free, building a savings pot0
