The problem with Office 365, is that it is designed as a subscription service. Possibly for one year.

If the Personal version, it's normal price is £59.99. So good for free, but....
with Office 2010, the licence would be perpetual.

Interested to know exactly what they have given to you.

How did the upgrade to Windows 8.1 go?

macman - as mentioned I have emailed the company I bought the laptop from and will give them a call next week to clarify

Nifty - the box with the product key is a Office 365 box. I have followed your link but sadly it just takes me where I have been before - I enter the code on the page, it then says sign in to your account which I do, it then tells me I don't have office associated with my account and then gives 3 choices - sign in with the account associated with activating office, activate office or go to the shop. I have been selecting activate office where I enter the code (again) only to be redirected back to the page with the same 3 options and being told 'office isn't associated with this account'.

As I said I have emailed them to query it and get some help hopefully, as the laptop is good, but its not sold as their site suggests and if I cannot get them to provide office it isn't really what I wanted. Though am sure they will help if they can.

Finally got it to upgrade to 8.1 this morning, so will be annoyed now if I end up sending it back!!!

Even if you sent it back, what else would you purchase for £170? So hold your horses and don't be so impulsive. Even if there was a problem with Office, it would be better to ask for a rebate and to keep the laptop.

    Girls...so over-emotional and less than rational. :)

Did you sign into Windows 8 with a Microsoft account? Is it the same account that you used for the Office activation?

Lol will see what they say.

No it wouldn't set up an account when I first used the laptop so no idea what it could be.

Anyway I give up with if for now, thanks for all the help

This is what should happen. Exactly what product is indicated on the card?

Thanks for the link, mine starts off doing that but goes wrong on step 3 as it signs into my account and then gives me then options I mentioned above and says the product key is not associated with that account. The box and card say Office 365.

I will hopefully be able to resolve this tomorrow if the company get back to me!

    Thanks

You should also be able to contact Microsoft, as they should support the Office software.

For the United Kingdom, technical support is provided in English, 24 hours a day, every day.
