Possibly. Perhaps if you were a little older, in employment, with a salary, etc you may have passed their credit score.

What did you put down as your occupation?

Student, as I am officially in full-time employment from 1st September. I've got some documents together from my current account, ISA and job offer and will appeal the decision.

I'll let everyone on here know how it goes when I hear back, they say they will reply within 10 working days from receiving my appeal.

The only other issue I can think of is I have opened a couple of current accounts in a short space of time...so perhaps this could be the issue?
It could be, if they think you've only opened them in order to use one of them to blag their £100 switching incentive. ;)
