Riverside Centre parking ticket Norwich help for signage needed

Hi all,

I have just come back from a holiday in Norwich and my wife, as registered keeper, received a parking charge notice. We intend to dispute the charge notice on the grounds that there are three car parks immediately adjacent to each other, one that is outside Morrisons and two others that are outside groups of retail outlets in the Riverside area. On the carpark signs it says that if you leave the shops in that car park area you should not leave your car parked there. So when we went from one group of shops to the other we moved our car and then moved back again. It will help the case my wife intends to make if we can get a picture/photograph of the signage at the Riverside Retail Car Park outside Curry's and Poundland to show as evidence that our group followed the instructions on the board and moved the car as instructed. If anyone living in Norwich is able to get a picture of those signs and send it on to us by email we would be very grateful. I am happy to give out my email but I'm not sure if that is allowed on this forum? I will give it anyway it is "I originally put my email address in here but was advised to remove it and did so using edit" Please put the subject as "Parking Sign Picture" so I can make sure it doesn't go to junk mail.

The assistance of any discussion board members is very much appreciated and I would like to say "thank you in advance" :j

Regards to all

We got it cancelled and I got to edit this post

You don't need a picture of the sign and nor do you need to base your appeals around 'what happened' unless you want to lose at POPLA stage!

Do read the top thread, tells you how to appeal.

I would remove your email addy and your name as well as this is a public forum (best to stay anonymous). I assume this is ParkingEye? Easy to beat at POPLA but re-think your strategy, read the top thread.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

That explains why the traffic is always so diabolical around Riverside Retail Park if shoppers are required to move their cars from in front of one shop to another to dodge PPC charges.

    Hi,

I think this is probably Highview parking, I recently had the 'pleasure' of dealing with a ticket from them in Riverside retail car park and thanks to the forum won at Popla.
Here is my popla decision post with links to the procedure I went through...

Let me know if you need any more information.
  • Hi all,

    Yes it was Highview parking.

My wife put in evidence of us having shopped there, as they asked us to in their reply email, along with a full letter based on the advice in the thread here and using the template. I don't know if it was the email explanation or if they actually read the letter in word format but they wrote straight back by email the next day 14th August and said they were withdrawing the charge. Thanks to all for assistance.

I don't know how to ask to get my post edited to have my email address removed can anyone advise on that? Wait I'll ask the forum moderator or report it to them. ;)

use EDIT in your first post and click on ADVANCED and then edit or remove the email addy and save

glad you got it cancelled, they dont like forum aided appeals and also there seems to be unwritten rules about having spent a certain amount of money (or more) in store at some of these places, to prove patronage
  • Hi Redex,

Thanks for that edit info I will try it now. Yes it was a great relief to get it cancelled and the forum is excellent in helping deal with these companies.

Seems Highview are folding at the first stage now.
As long as the advice given here is sent as a first appeal, they can see that a Popla appeal is futile, having been spanked a few times(including myself,at Riverside) :j
  • Hi again to all who have contributed to my car ticket problem and this thread. As I was in Norwich for two weeks it turns out that we got a second car parking ticket for the Riverside retail parking outlet. So I'm posting what I sent the second time for the benefit of other possible victims of Highview Parking (who actually appear to be very reasonable compared to some I've read about on this forum). Basically in my first ticket I wrote them an explanatory email, which was rejected but in their rejection they said send on proof of any shopping made at the retail outlets. I did this but I also used the template letter and completed it in full which I sent as an attachment. They emailed back the next day saying the charge has been waived. I wasn't able to tell if the two emails I'd sent and proof of shopping had been enough on there own or if it was the letter that I sent based on the template that did it.

When the second PCN came in I decided to try and find out what had worked and I wrote the following email as my first response (admittedly it had just a bit more of Martin's template letter content that my own individual attempt had on the first PCN that was waived.) Basically I think that proof of shopping/purchases will get you out of their tickets but I'm sure that reference to the form helps too.

    *****************First email reponse to PCN************

    "Dear Sir/Madam,

Please can you freeze action in relation to this car parking notice until you have investigated the claim I am making in relation to this parking charge which I believe has been incorrectly issued for the following reasons:

Our group of four people were using the Riverside shopping centre and it's various outlets for the day of the 2nd of August. In each of three car parks in that area there is a notice that says "If you you intend to leave the shopping vicinity you should not leave your car parked there". We followed this instruction to the letter and when we left the car park that serves the Currys retail outlet and Poundland (amongst others) to shop at the Boots outlet (In the Riverside retail area) that has a different adjacent car part we took our car with us. Later we returned to the parking area that serves the Currys and Poundland retail outlets to continue shopping there. We also parked in Morrisons car park where we ate lunch and made purchases. In this respect we followed the parking instructions exactly and when we changed car parks it was clear that a new period of free parking would be initiated as there is nothing on the parking signage that says "no return" within a given period or which states that the three separate car parks are one car park. The fact that you identify the car park as "Riverside Retail Park B" clearly indicates that there must be a car park A and so it is separate and different.

We made purchases at some of the retail outlets ie Currys, Poundland, Boots and later that evening went bowling at the bowling alley in the Riverside retail centre - although we parked elsewhere when we went bowling as it was much later in the day and we had been elsewhere and returned to enjoy that activity. I have attached a screen shot of my credit card purchases from my online banking account. I can provide a PDF of these transactions if necessary sometime after 22nd August when that months statement is ready. I have also attached a printed cash receipt from Poundland.

I am not able to tell you who was driving at the time and I am not required to do so by law. If you continue to pursue me in relation to this charge I will contest it to the full extent that I am able to using a formal written letter as I feel it to be both incorrect and also grossly unfair and not a true reflection of the loss to the landowners as the adjacent multistory car park charges just one pound an hour and the "reduced" rate you plan to charge is ten times that rate. We don't mind paying reasonable parking charges when the car parking facility requires us to do so at the time of parking.

In view of these circumstances and the proof of shopping that I have attached I would respectfully request that you cancel the charge notice issued in this instance."

    ************Response from Highview Parking************

    Dear Sir,

Thank you for your correspondence. With reference to the Charge Notice issued to the above vehicle, after reviewing our data and in view of the representations made in connection with its issue, we can confirm that we have decided to cancel this Notice and no further action is to be taken.

    Yours faithfully,

    Highview Parking Limited

Clearly if it's going the whole way to a panel then the template letter is the way to go but you might well be able to circumvent the hour or so involved in researching and collecting evidence about signage and then tweaking the letter with proof of purchase and/or the explanation in relation to parking in the same car park on more than one occasion. It does seem strange that they didn't dispute that their system would have noted the car on all occasions and that they just accepted that claim with no dispute so the question about is it purchases or is it that the system can't tell if you've parked there more than once in the same day is yet to be decided. Someone else posted that they got off on showing proof of purchases.
