A pop-up window was blocked

I keep getting a message saying 'a pop up window was blocked' which I have never gotten before
My computer has never allowed ads to pop up, but did allow other windows to open (like when you click on a photo for further info and aniother window opens)
How can I change this? I cant search for a holiday on https://www.teletextholidays.co.uk without being able to view things properly
PS I downloaded AVG, spyware and something else (?) which I have got rid of as they all mucked up my settings and were a nightmare to work with.

Yes, they're doing something in the way of pop-ups. If you're using IE you could turn off the pop-up blocker just for this site, then turn it back on again when done. It's the second item down in the tools menu.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. The site opens a popup window as soon as you go to the page. It was blocked for me by Firefox. You obviously have something that's blocking popups on your computer. It could be your settings or security software you have installed.
Getting rid of AVG and spyware protection is a really really really bad move. It would be far better to spend time getting the settings right with security software rather than just deleting them. The problems that could be caused by a virus or spyware could be far more damaging than anything you have come accross so far. In fact the wrong type of virus could wipe your entire computer. Without something to stop the bad stuff out there you are entirely powerless. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Ah, the joys of Service Pack 2. Chances are that the PC updated itself over the internet.
Yes; like this.squeaky wrote:If you're using IE you could turn off the pop-up blocker just for this site, then turn it back on again when done.0 -
Yeah, but as mentioned earlier - the OP does need to get to grips with whatever he chooses as his anti-virus software as soon as possible.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I went back to Nortons so I do have protection. I downloaded the other stuff as it was free but I would rather pay the money for a program that I like, so I did!
Anyway, I dont have the 'pop up blocker' under the tools menu, I did a search earlier before posting (last resort) and thats what it suggested. I just have Mail and News, Synchronise, Windows Update, Show related links, and Internet Options
I have looked all through the latter and cannot find any options relating to pop up blockers.0 -
In your internet explorer - right at the top of the screen there's a set of words in a line:-
File Edit View Favourites Tools Help
Just click on tools and you'll see it.
EDIT: Thinks...? Assuming you're using a reasonbly new (coupla years) version of IE and of Windows. What are you using if you still can't find a pop-up blocker in tools?Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. The post above yours lists the optins I have available under the tools option.
I am using IE version 60 -
Hmm... a third-party pop-up blocker, perhaps? I'm wondering what software you have installed; some anti-spyware applications also do this sort of thing.0

I remembered the other thing I installed, Zonealarm. But I have got rid of all 3. And my Norton anti-virus has simply been renewed so the settings are the same. Besides, all this happened before I deleted the 3 downloads, and after uninstalling them the settings seem to have remained?!?!?!
