Myself and my partner have found a house we like and have looked at the home report to find it needs quite a lot of work but the price reflects this (think it is a repossession). We are still really interested as have bought a flat with similar problems previously.
However the EA cancelled our viewing and has now hung up on us on the phone 3 times saying we can't buy it as the bank won't mortgage it and we can't afford it. I don't understand why he is saying this as he hasn't a clue about our finances and also the home report states it is suitable for mortgage purposes.
He also told us there were 6 other viewers whereas his colleague let slip there was no other interest.
We have contacted the bank and they have said they would give us a mortgage but the EA just won't listen.
We had previous problems selling with this EA but just want to forget that and view this house but he just doesn't want to deal with us.
Does anyone have any advice / other avenues we could go down? We really want to view this house but are just getting nowhere with the EA.

If it's a repo there must be a public notice, find it and contact lender direct to make an offer.0 -
Sorry I should have mentioned its in Scotland. Does the notice still apply?0

Bu yes, contact the bank that's repossessed.
£3 to the Land Registry. Look at part 3 'Charges' in the Title to find the bank.0 -

Not in Scotland.
www.ros.gov.uk for Scotland, but to be honest finding the bank isn't going to get you anywhere near the person making the decisions. I think the OP will have to either persevere with the agent's odd behaviour (maybe there's some reason why they're not doing viewings which they wish to keep secret) or look elsewhere.0 -
Sounds to me like the agent (or somebody he is close to) wants it0

It shouldn't be necessary, but it may help if you put your request in a letter or email - saying that you want to view, and if you like it you are in a position to make an offer.
If the EA really is 'up to no-good', he can later lie about what you and he said in a phone call, but it's harder to lie if there is a paper trail.0 -

Good point to create a paper trail.
Also, of itself, putting things "in writing" will put pressure on the EA to carry on and sell the place properly (as he will probably click you are deliberately providing yourself with evidence against him if need be).0 -

We'll try sending him a letter (although any we've previously sent about other issues he just ignores) and see where this gets us, thanks!0 -
Estate agent in 'acting like a tool' shocker...
Quelle surprise!I am a mortgage adviser. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I'm always amazed that banks don't keep tighter tabs on what their agents are doing to market their repo properties.
Whilst sometimes we are quick to jump to conclusions about how EAs handle them on the board, there are certainly plenty of instances where the behaviour is full-on suspicious.
I bet the guys who run the departments that liquidate the repos get looked after very well by the EAs...0
