Between all of the family we have 5 ebay accounts, they have all in turn been disabled by ebay today because they say that the accounts have been accessed by a third party. There is no chance of all 5 problems being caused by clicking on a dodgy email so it's got to be something 'in' the computer rather than a human problem.
Ebay has reconnected us all with new passwords so no harm was done there but if this was spyware how come we've only had ebay problems, can our bank accounts be compromised? how serious can it be when we have Norton 360 in place?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but any antivirus programme can be circumvented.
I'd also say that Norton, along with McAfee, is a resource hog that doesn't offer the protection that most people think it does.
You need to do some research and start looking at alternative solutions -including an AV programme, a firewall (that specifically monitors outbound as well as inbound traffic) and start using some spyware/malware removal tools on a regular basis.
You may have a key logger - not a nice experience.
I would suggest you get some help from someone experienced in virus/trojan removal and specifically get them to look for rootkits.
For self help I'd suggest getting a trial copy of Sophos or F-Secure. You will need to uninstall your Norton first before using other AV programmes. Sing out if you need further help.

This will help you out in the interim.
I would also download cure it by Dr Web - it is a free standalone anti virus program that is very good for trojons and bots - http://download.drweb.com/drweb+cureit/0 -
We are complete and utter computer dunces - can you explain what key logger is, how exactly did we get it?
Because we are PC numpties can PC World put this right for us, we have a technical support subscription thingyIf I screw my eyes up tight I can just about see where you're coming from0 -
a key logger is just that it logs your keystrokes - you could have downloaded it or you could have been hacked.
Try the firts 4 posts on the linked log before going to PC world.
see here for a fuller defintion - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keystroke_logging0 -
A keylogger records everything you do on the pc (type passwords etc) and sends the info back to a scoundrel who uses whatever useful info they can. Do what reluctant_spender has posted. If you want nothing done about it and hear complete codswallop then take it in to pc world. Otherwise find a techie friend if you're still stuck or a decent local pc repair/shop/person and cut your losses with pc world subscription."She is quite the oddball.
