How to cancel contract and move to PAYG

I have one month to go on a Talkmobile pay-monthly contract. It was a cashback by redemption deal which worked well but the cashback has come to an end and i want to move to PAYG with 3.
I have a 3 PAYG SIM. Am I right in assuming that i should call Talkmobile to give notice to end the contract and get a PAC. Then I go through the process on the 3 website to move my number.
(Sorry if this is a basic question, but I haven't had a contract before.)

Yes, 100% correct (I did exactly the same last month with no problems).

The notice is 30 days and the PAC lasts for 30 days. To avoid paying twice for this month you have to give the PAC to '3' a few days before 30 days expire.
