Cancelling Sheilas Wheels policy help

Hi I was wondering if anyone could help with some advice. I cancelled my car insurance policy 5 months into a policy I was paying monthly. When I phoned up to cancel I wanted to pay my cancellation fee but was told I would have to wait for a letter with the final amount. A few weeks later I recieved a letter from the finance company with the final balance saying my last direct debit would be a higher amount to cover cancellation. The higher direct debit for around £50
Was taken from my account and I thought that it was finished. Then yesterday I received a letter from a debt collector saying I owed them £160, I phoned sheilas wheels and after about 40 mins of them saying it wasnt anything to do with them I was told to contact close premium
Finance as it wa them that passed the account across. Spoke to the finance company who said they hadnt passed it across and my account with them was paid in full and closed. Back onto sheilas wheels again a long phone call with me paying she finally agreed I had paid a higher last direct debit but I hadnt paid the cancellation fee direct to sheilas wheels, she said I had recieved letters which I chose to ignore (i hadnt recieved any). I just rightly or wrongly assumed that the higher payment they quoted when I cancelled was it I didnt realise I had to pay one payment to the finance company and one to sheilas wheels. Has anyone else had to pay 2 lots of money to cancel insurance, and been left in debt with a debt collector over something they didnt know about. I am also disputing the amount owed as they said I didnt pay £55 but £98 was passed to debt collector who has now added another £60 on top of that!

When third party finance companies are used it isnt uncommon for them and the insurer to have fees. Similar to some brokers where both insurer and broker have a fee.

Firstly check your paperwork to ensure that these fees were correctly identified in them, the policy ones should have the insurer one and the credit papers the credit one.

Finally, if you arent happy then register a complaint and if you dont agree with their response take the matter to the FOS for adjudication
