I have now narrowed my options to a few cars and wondering what people think are the best options. I will be leasing for 2-3 years depending on the deal.

The options I have been given are:

Peugeot 2008 1.6 e-HDI Allure 2 years £196.43
Renault Captur 1.5 dCi 90 Dynamique Media Nav Energy 2 year deal £167 (or an upgrade to the next level for an extra £30 a month)

Vauxhall Mokka 1.7 CDTI Exclusive 2 year deal £186.91
Hyundai IX35 S 3 year deal £211.08

Ideally I would want something fairly quiet when driving. I have heard the captur is quite good for this where as the mokka isnt great. But I have no idea.

Any thoughts?

Why don't you have any idea? Get yourself some test drives set up so you can have first hand experience of what these vehicles are like and how comfortable they are to you.

"Quiet when driving" will vary by road type/ speed. You can get something with a quiet engine and quiet road noise so good around town but suffers from terrible wind noise at speed so not good for a quiet drive on motorways (unless its the m25 in which case you'll be stationary most the time)
  • If buying, I wouldn't suggest any of them - but for leasing purposes my pick of those would be the Renault Captur. Looks a nice car and I found the 1.5dci to be a good engine (at least in the Megane).

Test drive them all though and see what you're happy with - but a real test drive, one that lasts about an hour at least.

The only one I've driven is the Captur and I was reasonably impressed with it. I don't recall noise being particularly noticeable.

I like the look of the Captur.

And i also think the 1.5dci lump is a solid little engine.

I seem to remember reading that there is a newer dci engine, a 1.6, but don't know if it is in the Captur.

I would be tempted by the Captur with a small capacity petrol engine.

They are economical without the additional complications of modern diesel emissions gubbins.

How does it work with arranging a test drive.

Do I just call up and ask to book in an appointment for one? Is it possible to arrange a test drive without anyone coming with me? I dont feel like I could relax in the car with one of their sales people sat with doing their whole sales spiel.

Most dealer will send a salesman.

As much as too prevent theft as anything else.

Only way to get these "at least one hour testdrives" is likely to rent one for the day.

Some makers did 24 hr testdrives but they are pretty rare now.

I had a Rover 75 on a 24 hr testdrive in '99 and went to Manchester in it!

Depends on the dealer and their insurance if unaccompanied test drives are allowed, you will also have to pass their attitude test to see if you get the keys at all. Prestige marques often allow longer test drives, some volume makes are very much less keen on having a conveyor belt of cars to re-prep.
Make no mistake, the last thing a professional car trader will do is hit you with patter when you are test driving the car, they know you will be concentrating too much on not making a fool of yourself driving an unfamiliar car to make intervention necessary.
You may want to do a half-way deal and hire a car (when you've narrowed the selection down to one of two) and make sure they know you are an interested buyer.

You say you have been given these options, does this mean it is rental through your employer and so you can actually only choose one of the above vehicles?

Personally I wouldn't want either, but if I had to choose one it would be the Renault, slightly better than the others, but we wary about the reliability of electrics.

I have pretty much narrowed it down to 2. I am leaning more towards the captur as the insurance is less, mpg is more and it seems to do everything I want.

I will ask the question of the local dealer.

There were a few cars I liked the look of. So I asked for some prices, those are the ones that fall within budget.
