Many ex service people do find it hard to get jobs when they come out of the services. I know that there are charities that help people with this but I dont know the names.
Did they not help you with a discharge plan when you left to help you with your future?.
For a PE teacher you would have to do an access course unless you had A levels. then either a 4 year teaching course or degree which is 3 years and 1 year PGCE.
  • Glad you said that - I can imagine people want to pigeonhole you based on what you were doing previously (happens to anyone who changes careers to a greater or lesser degree).

Roughly where in the country are you? It may have a bearing.
It happens all the time. Even when i left i was told security companies will hire an ex RM without hesitating and to look for jobs in that field. I'm not interested in that but if i needed to for financial reasons then i would. My location is in a small village west of blandford forum. There is good road and rail links nearby so travelling is no biggie if i found a job in a more desirable field.

I'll pop back on later. I have to put tea on for the kids now.

Lol i am already doing that for free thanks to the wife. Her and several of her friends and mums from the area we live wanted to lose weight so she set up a little running club. I currently drill 16 of them twice a week and if you think serving in the forces is difficult, try controlling 16 women complaining about a hill being too steep :rotfl:

why are you doing this for free? start changing. it doesnt have to be a lot, even £5 a week each will give you £80 extra cash for yourself. everyone is into fitness at the moment word will spread and before you know it we will be buying your dvd soon!
    Don't sweat the small stuff

How about trying an Online Careers Test?. Some of them are quite fun and may introduce you to a career you had never considered before.

Wish you lots of luck :)

Talk to these people https://www.ctp.org.uk/ You should have been given details about the service they offer in your discharge prep and pack.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Have you contacted the Royal British Legion? I wonder if they have a section offering new career training. Or they may be interested in having you as some kind of welfare/rehabilitation officer. Like a previous poster, I would like to say "thank you" for your contribution In helping to keep our country safe.
  • What about a bit of everything?

If you are already fitness training your wife and her friends then look at getting some fitness training qualifications and start charging.

You have military experience, first aid experience, organisational skills etc. all good skills for this job. Look at getting experience in training in general, but also provide training for the elderly, people with disabilities and people recovering from accidents. Maybe even people attempting get fit enough to join the armed forces. Also offer non-military training, e.g. Pilates. I live in rural area and a local lady does a roaring trade teaching Pilates in many Village Halls in our area.

You can run early morning classes before work and evening classes after work and maybe weekends too. This will leave your daytime free to study for graphic design, or another course that takes your fancy.
  • What about ''Landscape Design''? There are courses online to get you started and eventually you could consider starting your own business.

Best of Luck with whatever you decide :)

I was reading another part of the forum the other day and the OP was a PE teacher. There was some discussion about her job as she's having to do supply teaching because it's hard to get a permanent placement. It sounded like PE teaching is over subscribed.

How about going self employed and setting up a bushcraft/survival skills workshop? They're quite popular.

Or as you're fairly rural, what about agricultural work of some kind, or learn a skill like drystone walling?

If the jobs need experience you dont have and money is ok at the mo, could you offer yourself as an intern?
