I would get him a watch or something like that, i'm not a fan of goody bags either - personal choice.!!

His Dad bought him a lovely watch for his 21st but he never wears it! Something I had considered however was getting him some nice cufflinks but I think he wants to choose some slightly oddball ones within a theme for him and his groomsmen party so that knocked that on the head!
Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!?
  • Male type person checking in. I'd be very happy to receive something like that. great to relieve the inevitable tension on the day and a great balance of serious and light-hearted stuff.

Hope you have a great time.:kisses2:

Thanks Fruit and Nut! We're both a bit silly and lighthearted at the best of times hence the daft things in there as well as the nicer things like teh whisky and the letter! Thank for for the male perspective feedback - much appreciated. :D

  • Me and oh are doing each other a box for the day :) gonna swap them the night before as we will be spending it apart but not opening them till the morning. I've got a list somewhere of,what I'm putting in his lol but along the lines of,cufflinks. Socks, underwear, bottle of,coke, mini aftershave, mini disaronno bottle, thorn tons chocolate plaque saying il be the one in white, photos from my boudoir shoot and hopefully letters or cards from celebrities if I get any back. I've also ordered him a card saying how many days I've loved him for etc think it's a nice touch and even if he weren't doing me one I'd still do him one xxx

  • Aww Trixie that all sounds lovely! Let me know how you get on with the notes from the celbs. I was thinking about the same thing but all his "idols" (for want of a better word) are really obscure drummers that seem to be impossible to contact!

  • I'd forget the chewing gum. Nice thought but I have seen a few groom's chew their way through the wedding ceremony and personally I find it very disrespectful and not in keeping with the occasion. If you are having your wedding video'ed it also is very distracting on tape.

Thanks for the thought but he wouldn't actually chew the gum when we're at the venue - he's not the type. It's more for him to chew as he's running around getting nervous and it's a bit of an in joke with us. I may well put in some good mints instead/as well though so thanks for the thoughts!

  • I'm thinking about doing something like this - part of me wanted to get OH a 'proper' present for the wedding but he already has family heirloom watches and cufflinks that he wears for big occasions, so this might be a good alternative. Am definitely doing the card/letter though.

  • The ideas you've got so far all sound very personal. You know him best so I'm sure he'll love it :)

I actually think its a lovely idea to do something like this...as I've already said I left a bottle of water at the church for my man...I did a few other things too, more sort of dotted around that he would come across either the night before or actually during the day.

We had previously discussed doing something so I guess it became a bit like a treasure hunt leading up to the day for him...the final bit wasnt actually revealed until we returned from our honeymoon and I had had a granite name plaque added to the front of our house....not the most romantic thing but its still there over 20 years on.

My OH was happy to mark the day his way and although it wasnt with a box of things he did plan his own present to me...
My dad was a jeweller and between them over the months before the wedding Dad created a necklace as a gift from him and mum,and my OH made the earrings to match....it was only when I found them all by my bed on the morning of the wedding that I realised why my mum had been a bit evasive about wedding jewellery!

I guess some people might think it odd to do but if it makes sense to you then why not...afterall its a day of collecting memories, and making new ones to take you forward

I did that for my husband- he really appreciated it. I got a lovely personalised wooden box from eBay (which now has all the sentimental junk from our wedding in :rotfl:) and put the pretty much what you listed in there! I got Kendal mint cake, and personalised it, as if he gets hungry he gets really stroppy! :rotfl: (hangry). I also did the card.

Regarding the "proper" present, if you have the money and know what he is after then do it, but my OH already had posh cuff links, pocket watch from grandfather etc. the only think I could get him was a Rolex watch (one of the old traditional ones), but no money for that! Plus I need to save something for when I really screw up! ;) (joke!)
