Mobile phone contract

Options
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice, please bear with me as it is a slightly convoluted query.

My mother uses her mobile phone a lot and would benefit from going on a low tariff contract, however she likes the PAYG phone that she currently has, I on the other-hand want a new phone but hardly use it, -status symbol and all that- :). My question therefore is this if I took the contract out from carphone warehouse where the phones are unlocked to all networks can I put my PAYG sim into the contract phone and my mother put the contract sim into her phone? Would invalidate the contract, warranty or anything else.

All answers appreciated as I can't seem to find any information on the internet, though guess it is not that common a query :)

Thanks once again in advance

Adele Steele

Who will be paying for the contract?
If it's your mum, then she will be paying for your phone as well. She is likely to pay less with a sim-only contract or with PAYG with bundles like, say, giffgaff.

Mother needs a SIM only contract, you need to buy a new mobile (or save up and buy one).

If within the same network then it should be less of an issue, though Carphone warehouse phones tend to be unlocked anyway.

Would your mother be happy paying for a contract (and the risks for overuse \ loss or damage to the handset) ? or would you be splitting this extra cost?

The best value for your Mother is a Sim only deal - where it would be cheaper or the texts\ minutes higher or maybe unlimited, and she can continue to use the current handset.

The best approach for you besides having your mother subsidise this cost (through an over price contract) is to save up and buy a phone sim free so you can continue to use the payg that your happy with because of your usage..

This 'deal' seems quite stacked in your favour..

Barring the protests of ethics ;), yes, as long as her old phone is unlocked (or on the same network) the new sim will work in her old phone and your sim would work in her new phone.

Contracts can be a lot of hassle and stress, plus high financial risk if the phone with the contract sim is lost or stolen - you are liable for all the calls made by the thieves until you report the loss. Thieves ring premium numbers that they own, so that the phone can run up £hundreds or even £thousands in a few hours.

Your mum can get on a cheap PAYG sim with bundles that work efficiently with her usage.

Just buy the phone that you want outright and get a PAYG sim that works for yours - perhaps Three 3 2 1
