Though there is nothing wrong with using SpyBot, especially if you are a novice who tends to visit risky websites or not scrutinise as to what you are agreeing to before proceeding. Then you probably need as much protection from yourself as you can probably get.

You can also get Adblock Plus, it's a free extension that just adds to Firefox and Chrome which stops adverts displaying.
This won't solve the underlying problem though.0 -
Spybot+Adblock+a little common sense keeps my browsing ad-free and has done for years. The common sense is needed when installing (especially free) software as it always seems to come with unwanted toolbars etc. or worse attached these days. Unchecky can help with that - it monitors installations and automatically deselects dodgy options.0
