How can I stop continuous pop ups

I recently purchased a new laptop and wish I hadn't due to the amount of pop ups that I seem to be getting. Literally every site I go on I encounter two or three pop ups per page from different companies and now I am typing this I can't think of a single one!!!
I have added the extention AdBlock on Google chrome and its still happening. They pop up all over the page
Netcrawl ads has just appeared on my screen now advertising a windows error scan.
Does anyone know what I can do to stop these from happening as it is driving me mental.

Thanks in advance

Factory Restore if it is new or just clean up if you don't wish to run a Factory Restore.

JRT and/or AdwCleaner and then reset your Browsers....or vice versa.

I've done both JRT and AdwCleaner and it seems to have eased it rather than getting rid but it seems more bearable now. Hopefully that'll ease the problem

    Have you reset the Browsers?

Once you have done so, you can update your HOSTS file.

    I don't ever see these pop-ups and/or advertisements.

Try installing Spybot Search and Destroy or Malwarebytes and run a scan on your laptop.

Malwarebytes has a premium version but the free version is more than enough.

Lets just go back a couple of steps, if its a new laptop did it have any form of antivirus / anti-malware installed on it before you began using it properly or did you just connect it to the internet out of the box, vanilla like, and just off you went?

Be sure to use the Immunise option in Spybot. It eliminates a huge list of sites that generate these popups. Although less well known than Malwarebytes I rate it highly for avoiding unwanted advertising.

You can just use your HOSTS file for this, instead of installing yet another piece of software.
  • Editing Hosts is not straightforward. Also, you need a list of sites to blacklist, which is exactly what Spybot provides - and keeps updated - for you.

He didn't suggest editing the host file, the MVPS hosts is a list of blacklisted sites and it comes with batch file to install it. Spybot is just another way of slowing down ones PC

SpyBot's Free Edition requires manual updates. You can just as easily update your HOSTS file.
Though there is nothing wrong with using SpyBot, especially if you are a novice who tends to visit risky websites or not scrutinise as to what you are agreeing to before proceeding. Then you probably need as much protection from yourself as you can probably get.
