Legal and General home insurance

For 4 years have been paying approx. £200 for home and contents insurance through home quote direct.
As it was listed on here, have tried L+G - £126, and a free Karcher pressure washer worth £60. Sods law mine recently packed in and I bought a Nilfisk, nevermind!
Quote has plenty of buildings and contents insurance - So, what's the catch, or isn't there one? :)

If you look at the Defaqto rating L&G have two products but I believe they default to their very basic product but that may well be sufficient for your needs - its a 2* product on a 1-5* scale (similar to hotels etc)

Your current provider is actually an intermediary and so you would need to know the actual product you are buying to say if its equivalent/ better/ worse than the L&G

As in the 'essential' and 'extra' listed? Extra is about £40 more.
I have brought voluntary excesses down to zero and it's £140, still seems cheap.
I am just basically going off the sums insured which are more than adequate.
Main thing is I get my house rebuilt if it falls down, not too concerned in the smaller stuff.
    Thanks for your reply :)

If you go to http://www.defaqto.com/star-ratings/ you can see the differences. The Essentials product is actually 1* for contents and 2* for buildings. The other is 4* for both.

You can review the difference to see if they are worth £40/year to you.

    Nice link, thank you!
Only real differences I can see is £100/500 cash in house - don't keep any in the house since being burgled!
£1000/greater of 5000/10% of contents sum insured - Grand will cover stuff in shed.
Lastly £0/1000 cover for outdoors - only have a table and chairs.
I could only find them listed under 1 and 4 stars, nothing at all for 2 stars - average of the 1 and 2 you listed perhaps?
    Thanks for your help :)

Thats the contents you were looking at.

Click the Buildings to see the other half of the policy - they rate each part separately rather than a combined buildings and contents

Ah yeah, don't I feel stupid! Did start work at 4am...
    Not a lot of difference:
Home emergency cover, not 100% I need that?
Tracing pipes, £0/5000, you never know I suppose.
Alternative accommodation cover £25/50k - Mother lives round the corner!
It does seem the essentials does what it says on the tin, but I'm no expert :)

And for some thats all they need.... no point having a top end policy if you dont need one.

On the contents I would check the single article limit and valuables/high risk item limits

Trace & Access is one of the largest claim issues for buildings cover on those contracts which include it.

I would not sell cover without it.

Tv is probably most valuable thing, and that's years old now. I'm not extravagant at all :)

Pipes is a good point, peace of mind for a pound a week I guess - still be no more expensive than I'm used to, better cover, and a free Pressure washer :)
