I want to recycle my wedding dress?

I planned at some time to give it to a charity shop but one Friday there was an advert in our local paper for second hand wedding dresses. The lady asking for them was auctioning them off for charity at a wedding show. Before I had chance to change my mind I contacted her and dropped the dress off within an hour.
No regrets whatsoever just hope the person that bought it loved it more than me.
What a lovely idea! and some lucky brides got bargain dresses!0 -
Save it in case you married again to someone elce.0

TBH I would keep it as a wedding dress. I wouldn't give it away OR alter it.
But why keep a dress that will never be worn again?
A friend of mine had hers altered, in a similar way to 74jax, and also had it dyed, a light sage green, just enough to stop it being obviously bridal. It's a beautiful dress she wears to formal occasions.0 -
+1 for careful dyeing.
I read of a lady who so loved her wedding dress she had it's twin made in black, but that struck me as a bit odd.
Taking a basically white dress & then tenderly dyeing it so it no longer declaims "bride" but instead murmurs "stunning"? Should work on the main fabric but may not on trimming (think of accidentally re-tinted brassieres?) so careful/professional/fabric paint all routes to consider.
If you are determined Not A Dress, then unpick it all (and there can be 18 metres of fabric in a wedding dress!) and see what the pieces suggest to you.
Keeping a length for a Christening gown sounds a glorious idea - top tier of cake traditionally set aside, why ever not a length of wedding dress too?! If you are *determined* to disassemble it, of course.0 -

Why WOULDN'T you keep it? It's your wedding dress!
Nothing on earth would make me give mine away: OR alter it in any way.
It seems a bit odd (to me.) to want to do anything to deface or alter your wedding dress.(•_•)

Why not? If you're not going to wear it again or keep it to pass on to someone, then it's just going to be hanging in a wardrobe.
I was going to resell mine, but I haven't as yet. For now, I want to keep hold of it, but I can see why some people don't.
I did consider dyeing it black, but even then I don't think I'd wear it again.
I do love that new trend that's popped up though....trashing your dress! I know a lot of people would be horrified at that though! :rotfl:

Each to their own Georgie. But I wouldn't part with mine: ever.

Before I got married I was like "yeah I'm going to sell it afterwards", but now, I'll admit, I am finding that I don't really want to part with it so easy.
A part of me does like the dress trashing though I've got to admit!I also quite like the idea of customising it, but then again it would still look like a bridal gown due to the material, so it probably isn't worth the hassle.

Do people actually sell them then? I mean, I can understand it if you get divorced, but otherwise, would people not want to keep it for their daughters/grand-daughters?(•_•)

There is a charity which asks for wedding dresses to be donated, to be given to terminally ill brides. I'll try to find the site tomorrow. I think its a wonderful idea. xx
Thought I'd have a look tonight - here is the website:-
