4p ATM charge?

So I have just been checking my monthly bank statement and have seen a transaction which says "Withdrawal Cash 50.04 Edinburgh PS".
Does anyone know how this could of happened as I appear to of been charged 0.04p for a transaction. This is also different to all the other cash withdrawals because they say "cash withdrawal" as opposed to "withdrawal cash"

You didn't use a credit card for the withdrawal? Which bank issued the card?0

If he had then the transaction would be on his credit card statement, not his bank statement.
OP, you need to query it with your bank. The only way I can think of that a debit card withdrawal would result in such an amount if it was actually done at a non-sterling ATM and the amount is a conversion from a foreign currency.0 -
UK debit cards will normally seek their their own issuer, then for LINK then any underlying network such as Visa (Plus) or MasterCard (Cirrus) networks.
Sounds like the ATM transaction was completed via Plus or Cirrus. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

You might be right as an explanation for the transaction description, but I stil don't see where the 4p charge would have come from other than my original suggestion.0 -
There would normally be some kind of fee attached to using Plus / Cirrus but the bank systems would be setup to use LINK with domestic ATM transactions. We can speculate all we want but until the OP comes back to flesh out the story it's pure guesswork

Actually, I hadn't considered that, and you're right, it's by far the most likely explanation.0 -

I don't know of any bank or post office which puts through a bill payment as a cash withdrawal though. Saying that, it sounds like they have a "Mini statement" rather than a full statement.
I renewed a passport at a post office recently and they put it through as 3 different transactions (used the same machine every time)
POST OFFICE <lots of numbers and some letters> DEB 72.50
POST OFFICE <lots of numbers and some letters> DEB 8.75
LNK <letters and numbers> CPT 5.00
I'm guessing the last one was different because they gave me the actual cash to go put in the photograph machine.0
