Data Roaming in USA

At the moment I have No.1 son roaming the USA with a Toggle Mobile SIM. He wants to occasionally go online (15p/MB) with his Moto G. He is only a few days in and he hasn't done too badly (example below):

5/8 - 284488 - 611192 - 2 mins 24 secs - 13pence
9/8 - 2205866 - 19737460 - 11 mins 2 secs - £3.15
10/8 - 723976 - 3313228 - 4 mins 01 secs - 62 pence
11/8 - 137434 - 398683 - 1 min 59 secs - 9 pence

The table is Date/Uploaded Bytes/Downloaded Bytes/duration/cost.

Do these look reasonable for someone who would check email, Facebook, Twitter and has system and App updates turned off whilst not on WiFi? Is there anything obvious I should tell him to adjust on the phone to keep the cost down? He is there for a while so am trying to work out whether their USA bundles are worth getting (£20 per 1GB/month, £30 2GB etc.)
